Twenty-five years ago this Saturday, “Seinfeld” debuted on NBC.

It didn’t do particularly well at first, but it slowly began gathering viewers and then — yada yada yada — it permanently changed the way that we, as New Yorkers, talk.

In honor of those 25 years, here are 25 things that “Seinfeld” added to the popular vernacular over the course of its nine seasons on the air (1989-98).

I live in fly-over country. Or as some New Yakkers might put it “Iowa or Kansas or something like that”

I’m pretty sure the whole “Ping” list concept originated with Ping the delivery boy. I think it had to do with when he got pushed into a moving car when Elaine ran out to apologize to a virgin.

The characters were actually pretty well-traveled. Los Angeles (the Smog Strangler), India (a dreadful, dreadful place), Akron, Ohio (the “jerk store called”), the Tunisian desert, Burma (or Myanmar), Miami (Del Boca Vista), Cuba....and don’t forget immigrants from Poland who had ponies!

More like quotes but….

“I haven’t got a square to spare.”

“Yes they are and they are spectacular!”

“There should be a B.O. squad that patrols the city like a “Smell Gestapo”. To sniff ‘em out, strip ‘em down, and wash them with a big, soapy brush...”

“Jerry: This isn’t a good time.
Telemarketer: When would be a good time to call back, sir?
Jerry: I have an idea, why don’t you give me your home number and I’ll call you back later?
Telemarketer: Umm, we’re not allowed to do that.
Jerry: Oh, I guess because you don’t want strangers calling you at home.
Telemarketer: Umm, no.
Jerry: Well, now you know how I feel.
[hangs up phone]

“Telemarketer: Would you be interested in a subscription to the New York Times?
Jerry: Yes.
[hangs up]”

“Jerry: I don’t understand. Do you have my reservation?
Rental Car Agent: We have your reservation, we just ran out of cars.
Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That’s why you have the reservation.
Rental Car Agent: I think I know why we have reservations.
Jerry: I don’t think you do. You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don’t know how to *hold* the reservation. And that’s really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them.”

“Hi, my name is George, I’m unemployed and I live with my parents”

“Yeah. Assman, Jerry. I’m Cosmo Kramer, the Assman!”

“You very bad man, Jerry. Very bad man”

Really? I learned that just by seeing the previews for Rosemary’s Baby, back in the late 60s.
