Did you watch the World Cup at a bar on Tuesday? Did you tip your waitress afterward?
Hall of Famer Warren Sapp did one of those things but not the other after watching the United States play Belgium at a bar in Florida. Sapp racked up a $69.39 bill during the match and left a zero dollar tip.
Sapp took a lot of heat for the no-tip after a picture of the bill made its way onto Twitter.
I am not a waitress but I order a lot of delivery food. If it is under $30, I tip $10. My grandson who used to work at a pizza place, says I have made friends for life. If I can order delivery food, I can also afford a good tip. Most are young people and they deserve being treated nicely. I do not understand this no tipping nonsense.
It’s basically a good reason to get rid of the tip system.
So’s working at McDonald’s, but you don’t feel the need to tip them, do you? Why not? They’re servin ya food. But no, society says don’t tip these guys over here, but tip these guys over here. That’s BS.
I was just thinking about this tonight.... I’ve had tragedy during my years of life on this earth. I have had to come to terms with it and accept God’s plan for me. How do you use your great-grandmother/father’s grievances (being sold into slavery by their own race) to eternally rationalize your perception of injustice?
Depends maybe on where you are. The wife and I tipped frequently in Ireland when vacationing there a few years ago. Nobody ever returned our tips.
You are quoting part of the dialog from Reservoir Dogs.
You are correct, you win a cookie.
My step-daughter worked as a waitress in pizza places and restaurants for a number of years. She said the worst tippers were old people. The best tippers were single men. Or men in groups without their wives.
So you want to get rid of a true merit system because of a certain ethnic group?
Never let a good opportunity to feel offended and sorry for yourself go to waste.....
When the Black church group “COGIC’ had their yearly convention in Memphis for many years, some restaurants would close for yearly maintenance during that period
Well, I am 70 and have always left a good tip. The year after my freshman year in college, I worked as a waitress. One day a trucker came in, ordered a cup of coffee and left $20. It made my day so I always remember that. My whole family leaves good tips. Guess my example works. I hope so.
The culture of tipping I think has gone out of hand. Tips are for exceptional service. People should be paid for work they do and tipping to be icing on the top for exceptional work
As a waiter, single men were so-so.
Single women were bad.
Black-Americans are notorious for low tips.
Even black waitresses hated to wait on black parties.
When we'd catch a party of 12 stealing food by ordering ONE plate for the salad bar, yet passing it around so everyone could "fill up", the screams of racism could be heard for miles.
Notice how few Sizzlers are around these days.
You simply will go out of business if you have a predominantly black clientele.
Yeah, whitey was bad to blacks 60 years ago.
But food isn't "free", not now, not then.
He apparently is bankrupt too.
Tip culture in the UK is very different.
Bang on. The usual in a pub is saying “One for yourself?” with your voice rising on the last syllable. If they accept, they’ll add the price of a drink. If not, no harm, no foul. Or drop some change into the charity jar - most pubs have one.
Sit down restaurants, if they don’t automatically include a service charge, you just round up to the nearest note value. Same with cabs and take away delivery drivers. If your bill is £12.20, you say “Call it £15.”
Tipping in the USA is a minefield for Brits, just like tipping in the UK is problematic for Americans. Different expectations. *shrug*
I wonder how she would respond if the diner called her “honey” or “sweetheart” or heaven forbid, “girlie”. They sound more “youthful”.
Can’t have it both ways.
One of the dirtiest players on the field and proud of it - never did like him.
That said, if he stiffed a waitress for lousy service, and the service really was lousy, good for him.
See, that annoys me. I am a woman and a generous tipper. But I often see male customers being fawned over in the expectation of a nice tip while females get fewer table visits. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. They expect a poor tip from me because they assume I’ll be a cheap tipper. So, even though I WANT to give a good tip, the service may not warrant it. And the cycle continues.
