Word For The Day, monday, 7/7/14

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

truculent; adj.

1. fierce; cruel; savagely brutal.

2. brutally harsh; vitriolic; scathing: his truculent criticism of her work.

3. aggressively hostile; belligerent.

Etymology: c.1540, from L. truculentus "fierce, savage," from trux (gen. trucis) "fierce, wild."

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Here is my example with WFTD.

To combat illegal alien truculence, citizens are undertaking to do that which the gov't will not.

No pushing at the door please!

This man defines truculent. Although I couldn't find video of him saying the word, he has said it over and over in interviews.

The seeking, escorting, importing, distribution
and quartering of hundreds of thousands
criminal illegals aliens, some also terrorists,
narcoterrorists, felons, some weaponzed,
some as sex slaves, and with known mules
carrying incurable diseases to 57 states
is nothing but truculent treason.

Today’s truculent treason has been brought
to YOU, and abetted, condoned, and aided,
by the complicit EXEMPT US Congress.

Obama is arrogant, truculent
Michelle bans all foods that are succulent
Amidst liberal praise
Middle fingers, they raise
Lest you forget where the “f*** you” went

Yo’ means we bees havin’ to learn this?

Comment from a dear friend who was the Dean of Admissions of the nation’s largest community college: The after high school “We bees gwine to collie” crowd as a rule spends the first full year in remedial English courses that are specifically designed to bring them up to a 10th grade reading level.

I have no problem with kids spending the first semester in remedial English. my youngest daughter has a learning disability and spent a semester in remedial English in her first year of community college, despite the fact that she went to private school and had a tutor throughout HS. That it is common just means that the public school system is a failure.

I am looking for something to read. Haven’t been able to concentrate to read till this past weekend. Read a couple of books. Light, mindless reading. I will check it out. Love kindle, I can buy it from my chair at home and get it instantly.

yes, that’s the only way to go, though I was brought reluctantly to the kindlebooks, and only bc it came with the ipad. Also, JKRowling’s second in the series of Cormoran Strike detective novels is out, I enjoyed the first one awhile back so bought and started the second yesterday.

The spouse is off to Comcast for new boxes and hopefully a better deal or we are out of there. We’ve been customers for over 20 years but the rates keep going up and quality keeps going down. No DVR, no special services unless you count HD which irks me that they charge extra for it(like touch tone phone charges for 25 years when that’s all anyone has had). Our cable went out after the power went out so we were without for about 6 hours yesterday. I’m glad it wasn’t very hot. We got internet back but not cable.

I had read the Amateur, and then the NYPost excerpts piqued my interest in this. There were parts that I full on LOLed. Lots of quotes, not for attribution, but given the blood-thirsty individuals involved, not at all surprising, and I believe every word!

Lots of traffic on the Peace bridge yesterday. Going into the US was really backed up. Going north we only had to wait in a line of maybe a dozen cars.

Peace bridge sounds gay until you realize the other option for getting here is the Rainbow bridge.

Can you cover for me tomorrow?

The smugness of the IRS
May soon be fading fast
Pursued by the threat
Of e-mails from the past

The truculent attitude
That has been in display
Hopefully will no longer
Be a card for them to play

If even one lost e-mail
Is retrieved by someone
It will give prosecutors
The ticket for some fun...
