President Barack Obama brought forward a new administration effort Monday to place quality teachers in schools that need them the most.

Obama said the U.S. education system has “a problem” in that students who would benefit the most from having skilled or experienced teachers in their classrooms are least likely to get them, including black and Hispanic students.

Obama credits education and good teachers for helping him get to the White House. He said he wants to make sure that every child has the same access to good teachers that he had. …

Better teachers are just like better people in all facets of life and business. They want to go where the conditions and pay are better, not into hellholes where angels fear to tread, and risks outweigh the pay.

“Obama highlights push for better skilled teachers”

Democrat solution: raise tax rates again to pay existing teachers more money, and their skill levels will automatically improve with better pay.

They have a deal with Spring Arbor college (a Christian college) about 30 miles north where a student can work on their teaching degree at the same time they get their 4 year degree.

The local media threw tantrums when Hillsdale college announced the change. Liberals apparently can’t grasp the concept that knowing something about what you teach might be kind of important.

I personally couldn’t care less if someone has a teaching degree if they know what they’re talking about. Neil Armstrong went into teaching Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati with only a Master’s degree after leaving NASA.

One of the best teachers I had in HS was teaching HS Physics while getting a BS Chem degree at some local U. He stayed about a week ahead of the class in the textbook and any questions he couldn't answer, he got the answer from a Prof at his school.

Way better than the chick who was the granddaughter of the guy the school was named for.

“Skilled teachers don’t want to work in hellhole inner-city schools with no student discipline and where they run the daily risk of getting shivved in the halls.”

Quoted for truth.

As an Engineering student I was required to read and discuss a psychology textbook. Two things stood out in my mind from that book - and one of them was,
It is doubtful if any learning occurs without motivation.
Thus, motivating the children to learn is the sine qua non of education. Fail to do that, and the children will not learn. Succeed at that, and - late or soon - the child will learn.

But the motivation comes from culture - and a child from a culture which does not provide that motivation must have it inculcated in school before anything else gets learned. To that extent, “teaching” is out of the teacher’s hands.

But to blame a culture which correlates with a race is to invite a propaganda war against yourself.
