An 18-month-old Saudi boy who was playing in the back garden of his house in the Gulf kingdom went back in carrying a snake which he wanted to show to his mother.
The boy looked delighted by what he thought a toy he had found before his mother hit him on the hand, sending the snake crawling away.
The mother chased the snake with a stick and killed it. She said her son thought it was a toy and he was very happy with it, Sabq Arabic language daily said in a report from the southern Dhamad town.
Hercules!!
Unless the snake was venomous, there was no reason to kill it, other than irrational ophiophobia. The mother just upset the delicate ecological balance of Saudi Arabia. Pests that snake was keeping under control will now multiply wildly.
Just the Prophet Mohammed paying a visit............
Meh. I once ran over a small copperhead with my tricycle. Picked it up by the tail, took it into the kitchen to where my mom was and asked her if she could ‘fix it’. She about had a coronary.
Hey, I did that when I was a kid . . . walked into the house with a water moccasin. No, it didn’t bite me . . . but my mom wore me out - didn’t never pick up no bad snakes again.
One of my students tried to scare me with his 20 foot yellow Burmese python.
I very casually stroked it on the top of its head, remarked that he would make a lovely pair of cowboy boots, and suggested we get on with the piano lesson! LOL.
The kid was devastated that i didn’t scream!
The snake was more intelligent than the Muslims. :-)
My wife, who is from India, likes to tell the story where when she was 3-4, she somehow survived having a tea party with a tiger that had been drifting through the forest near their village.
We had students from India visit our home in Maine.
Their kids were the same age as my son about 5. We let them explore the wooded area in our backyard (we could see them all the time). One of the Indian mothers was quite worried.
She thought a tiger might attack.
Less dangerous too. Even if its venemous the kid will kill more people than the snake ever would.
Snake ping
My wife is worried about bears and snakes. My folks, who live in town in Western Mass, had a young black bear visit their house early one morning a couple of weeks ago, and they posted a picture of him. Now my wife is freaked out that a bear might come attack our daughter when she’s playing outside.
My mom would just tell me to take the snake back outside.
