Pilot Buys Pizza for Delayed Passengers

Each row got its own pie

Adam Ritchie, a Domino's Pizza manager in Cheyenne, Wyo., said he'd never received a call like the one he got Monday night.

"I need to feed my whole plane," the caller told him.

"Lucky me, I hear 160 people. It ended up being like 38 pizzas," Ritchie said.

A Frontier Airlines flight from Washington to Denver was diverted to Cheyenne because of bad weather. The plane was stuck on the ground for nearly two hours.

The food on board was gone, so the pilot decided to order pizzas for everyone. Each row got its own pie.

"Next thing you know, Domino's Pizza was rolling up to the plane," passenger Logan Torres said. She sent CNN photos of flight attendants passing out boxes.

Frontier Airlines spokeswoman Tyri Squyres said she wasn't surprised at all by what the pilot did.

"This is not unusual for our pilots to go above and beyond to care for our customers," she said. "We have some great pilots who work here."

Actually, it was over 45 years ago ... and a couple pals and I would walk miles to get to the Dominos Pizza in Michigan (there were only at most, a handful of stores, then).

I can’t remember how many pizzas that we would buy, but the plan was to have some left over by the time we returned home.

One evening, it began to rain heavily just after buying the pizzas, and we were drenched within seconds of leaving the store. Visibility was nil.

A U.S. Army soldier on leave from South Korea, happened by with his Ford Falcon Sprint(?), including gorgeous girlfriend in the front seat, and he asked us if we could use a ride.

I was very impressed and thankful, that a guy who had come so far, and was serving our country, *and* had his girlfriend with him, would bother to help us.

Hey... wait a minute...

With all the security they make us go through to maintain a "sterile area," they let the Domino delivery guy just roll up to a plane and deliver pizzas?

Two words: weaponized anchovies.

i would think with all the explosive gas that 38 dominos pizzas can generate, what does a terrorist really need to carry on a plane to blow it up?

Yes,

After I saw a news story saying they had returned to their original recipe.

I still founded the pizza deeply lacking in taste.

I think that Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Little Caesar’s have been a price war for years and have done so much to cut cost that they have destroyed their products.

I used to be a big fan of Pizza Hut but I won’t even consider eating there any more.

38 pies, delivered in 2 hours ? WOW.

I’ve had emergency deliveries like this (And I assisted in the cooking) and that is an impressive feat.

Did you share the pizza with them (soggy though it may have been)?

Yes he was reimbursed. The pilot is truly in charge of the aircraft and its passengers. If he says the can have cake, then cake will be had.

I had a plane ride similar to this in the mid 80s. The plane was forced to land early, due to mechanical difficulties. The airline decided to rent a bus to take us the last leg. The bus was a brand new tourist bus and the airline filled it with free beer and soda. What could have been a very bad experience turned into a 4 hour party. Best plane trip I’ve ever had.
