Social Security Numbers And Noncitizens
SSA.gov ^ | August 2013

Posted on 07/09/2014 10:08:30 PM PDT by Citizen Zed

Generally, only noncitizens authorized to work in the United States by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can get a Social Security number. Social Security numbers are used to report an individual’s wages to the government and to determine a person’s eligibility for Social Security benefits.

You do not need a number to get a driver’s license, register for school, obtain health insurance, or to apply for school lunch programs or subsidized housing.

In almost all cases, if you apply for a Social Security number and card with your immigrant visa application, you do not have to visit a Social Security office in the United States. (For more information, see www.socialsecurity.gov/ssnvisa)

Recently I spoke with an EDD representative to find out if someone was on disability. They asked for the social security number. I gave it to them. They told me that that particular number was associated with 14 different people.

The last time I checked, identity theft is a felony and using a false social security card is a felony.

But these are law abiding undocumented workers (with fake documents).

A stunning situation, like the SSA still lives in the pre-computer era.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Regarding the statement above from the OP, the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for any of the indicated issues.

As a side note concerning the federal government's constitutionally limited powers, please consider the following. The states would sure be a dull, boring place to grow up and live in if parents were to make sure that their children were taught about the federal government's constitutionally limited powers as the Founding States had intended for those powers to be understood. /sarc

There was a case some years ago where the courts ruled that illegals using somebody else’s SSN wasn’t ID theft.

There are numerous economic reasons to privatize or get rid of Social Security. One excellent reason is that getting rid of SS discourages illegal moochers from jumping the border for the sole purpose of stealing its money.

FELONY: Any new immigration law and a good way to control illegal immigration is to make it a FELONY to take part in identity theft such as stealing someone’s Social Security number.

And if an immigrant is found guilty of the FELONY, he loses any chance at citizenship, and must be deported.

68 years ago when I got my Social security card and #I had to show them my birth certificate.

When I was 14 my wallet was stolen on a construction job and I've never had a card since then and no one has asked to see it, I've been asked for the # but never to see the card.

o I've never worked for anyone either, I ask other people for their cards, not the other way around.

Oh, I don’t think it’s a situation of not being aware, or savvy enough to identify the stolen use.

It is pretty easy to match up names, locations, times, etc. with a particular SSN, and for dual or multiple uses with any number of agencies.

The situation is that the SSA DOES know - they know everything, right down to keeping the true holder’s income tracking separate from the fake users. They wouldn’t want to overpay the legal owner of the number, would they.

They do nothing about this because of the MONEY they get. 6.2% of the illegals wages (and 6.2% from the employer) that they can pay out to somebody else. It’s free money to them.

The problem will be when Obama and the RINOs legitimize these people and they finally figure out they want all that prior fraudulent use (and payments) credited to a new SSN for them! It remains to be seen whether SSA with pull an IRS and ‘lose’ the information or not.

In any case, they KNOW - have known for decades.

Doesn’t matter. The current occupant of the oval office will tell the agency to do what he wants, not what the law says.

What happened to ITINs? Geez. I guess since 0 is using the SSN of someone in CT it doesn’t matter if illegals use the same SSN multiple times.

In my opinion, in order to collect Social Security benefits, you must be an American citizen and provide documentation to prove it.

I mentioned this to someone who married an American G.I. and only recently became a naturalized citizen. She snapped back that she paid into SS for years and should get that money back. I pointed out to her that her employer paid as much into SS as she did and will never see a penny of it.

It is my understanding that many non residents work the required time periods to qualify for SS benefits and then retire to Mexico, etc. where cost of living is cheap. This takes U.S. money out of our economy. The original intent behind SS was to provide for American senior citizens not to benefit the economy of other countries. An alien who worked in the U.S. should be eligible to receive benefits only when and if he or she becomes a naturalized citizen.

As a citizen, try refusing to give it and see how far you get....

It already is a felony. They don't prosecute illegal aliens for that crime. They only prosecute legal aliens and citizens.

When is the last time an illegal alien was prosecuted for under-reporting their under the table earnings or for tax evasion? Probably before you were born

You are a second class citizen in your own country. The laws apply to you. They don't apply to those who illegally trespass onto our soil. Only to those who are rightfully here.

My question is does the original holder accrue the benefits of the wages earned to their account?
