LeBron James decides to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James is removing his talents from Miami.

Four years after stunning the NBA world with “The Decision,” the Miami Heat forward announced an even larger revelation on SI.com Friday, perhaps destined to be called “The Redemption.”

James, 29, will return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, close to his hometown of Akron and far from the sunny beaches where he led the Heat to four NBA Finals appearances, two ending in championships.

"I’m not promising a championship," James says in the first-person essay. "I know how hard that is to deliver. We’re not ready right now. No way. Of course, I want to win next year, but I’m realistic. It will be a long process, much longer than it was in 2010. My patience will get tested. I know that. I’m going into a situation with a young team and a new coach. I will be the old head. But I get a thrill out of bringing a group together and helping them reach a place they didn’t know they could go. I see myself as a mentor now and I’m excited to lead some of these talented young guys. I think I can help Kyrie Irving become one of the best point guards in our league. I think I can help elevate Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters. And I can’t wait to reunite with Anderson Varejao, one of my favorite teammates."

His agent met with several teams last week, including the Lakers, but Cleveland emerged the winner despite James’ sit-down Wednesday with Miami president Pat Riley.

The Cavaliers made a big push this month to bring him back, swallowing some pride and dealing part of their future.

It’s a big hit taxwise moving back to Ohio.
5.4% vs zero in Florida.
He must really want to do it.

If you checked underneath his sofa cushions, you could probably find 5.4% of his income, and he wouldn’t care.

You’re probably correct.

But I also forgot the local income tax which is another 2%.
The liberals are claiming that this proves that taxes don’t count in choosing where to live.

And as the old Hunkie’s in Cleveland used to say “Dot’s boolsheet”

It’s a big hit taxwise moving back to Ohio.

Professional athletes' taxes are extremely complicated because they pay where they earn.

In other words, for every "away" game a player plays, they owe taxes to that municipality & state for that game.

So, it's not just a simple state-vs-state comparison.

And, even if it was, I don't think LeBron is too worried about it.

True, but half the games are in Cuyahoga County. I agree the whole thing is kind of bogus but when I saw that article I linked up the thread, I thought this is crap.

His local income tax of 2% gets split, I think between Cleveland and Independence where the training facility is. Besides that, does he live in a community that has its own income tax with only a partial offset?

So greater Cleveland gets 2% of his salary and there's an 8% OH sales tax in Cuyahoga County, with part of that percentage going to the county and part to the state. Add to that people who eat in restaurants when going to games, it's 8% sales tax in addition to the other positive impacts on the city. Add to that, it's next door to Dan Gilbert's casino.

I'd think LeBron coming back is a game changer for Cleveland.

Wow. After all these years I now know why I kept my TV.
I’d have a beer and popcorn while I sit at home and watch the tele but I spent all my money on PPV. /s or what my neighbor is doing?

Keeping Up with Appearances and Monty Python were funny in the past and reality today.

So the Spurs not only won their 5th title, they are also responsible for the destruction of the Miami franchise.

Revenge is sweet and best eaten cold. Miami dalenda est.

If that Finals series was close, I doubt LeBron would have jumped. But that whole series wasn't even competitive.

No doubt Lebron came to the same conclusion & didn't see it getting better in Miami in the immediate future.

That is the difference between a real team and one built around one player.

First game of the Summer League is tonight. Can’t wait to see the new rookie who’s supposed to be the best passer in the recent draft.

A few tweaks here and there by the braintrust in the FO and Pop and we should be good to go.
