The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

Beans are beans no matter the color. Never met a bean I didn’t like.LOL

You do realize that when you mention making stuff, you are supposed to post the recipe?

I would but I don't have a recipe. I just start adding tomatoes, onions, garlic, jalapeno, cilantro and lime juice until it looks right. I taste it and add salt. It may not taste exactly the same every time but it's always pretty good.

Twice is twice as nice. They can play a carrot duet.

My husband sprayed the petunias with something that is supposed to keep deer and rabbits away. It smells awful. The beans are now on a railing that is twelve feet off the ground, inside a six foot chain link fence where we let the dogs out. The whistle pig has shown no interest in the corn as yet, the roses may not be in danger, and he doesn’t seem interested in the tomatoes. That leaves the radishes and carrots. I’d rather not do anything, but we’re hoping to make our yard a less attractive place for him and Miss Piggy (there seems to be a female too).

Central Konnecticut:
* Garlic is up and drying already.
* Strawberries are done, but raspberries are cranking.
* Summer squash and cukes coming off now, tomatoes a week or so away.
* Snap peas and pole beans two weeks away.
* Potatoes, eggplant, and peppers three weeks away.
* Asparagus - two years (just planted crowns in May).

That’s the way I cook a lot too. I have started to kinda keep some notes as I go. When Hubby says I hope you can make that again, at least I have an idea what is what.LOL

YIKES! Can piglets be on the horizon?

I’d say your garden is coming along nicely.

I think so. From what we’ve read, these animals can have up to ten different burrows, and some of their offspring may eventually take over some of those locations. Others may move on to new territory.

Everything is growing...well?

Finally had to water this week, and deep irrigate the potatoes.

Cherries are almost ripe; raspberries, both blackcaps & reds are fruiting; another couple of weeks we might have some ready to pick. Meanwhile, the strawberries are finished for now.

Getting salad greens, and a few of the German Giant radishes; also slowly thinning out the Egyptian onions.

I know I have mentioned how big, how fast the Cornish Cross Broilers grow, so, since I processed 2 more today (got thunerstormed out, or would have done the rest), so here's what they look like:

Yes, that is a full sized dinner plate; and is for tonight's dinner. Removed both legs & thighs; the main attraction gets stuffed and roasted. They hatched 4-9; we bought them 4-11-14, just 3 months ago.

Wow! Fast growing and large to boot. That reminds me I need to reserve some birds for October slaughter from a local farmer.
