Boehner rebuffs Palin on Obama impeachment call, sticks with lawsuit
Fox News ^ | 7-11-2014 | Mike Emanuel

Posted on 07/11/2014 4:48:41 PM PDT by Citizen Zed

Boehner's response to Palin's call reflects concerns about the tricky politics behind impeachment proceedings, and Republicans' own record of going down that road in the past.

New York Democratic Rep. Steve Israel said Boehner is right to stand his ground. "On this, I happen to agree with Speaker Boehner, that we should not be spending our time or wasting our money pursuing the impeachment of this president," Israel told Fox News in an interview.

Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says the House should consider impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson for not fully enforcing the nation's immigration laws, and suggested that might stop Obama's overreach.

"I'm not advocating that we impeach the president right now," Bachmann told Fox News. "I'm saying that what we need to do is defund selective portions of the Executive Branch, and impeach certain officials in the Executive Branch."

For once Boehner is right. Wait until after November elections before impeachment.

Why give the Dims an issue for bringing out the vote.

If we win the Senate and can get a 2/3's majority...then impeach the worm.

It would be easier for Congress to Officially Declare War against Mexico, then when Barry refuses to send the Military to the Border they will have grounds to Impeach, that cannot be argued against.

Actually, impeachment does not make a lot of sense unless there is at least a chance of conviction in the Senate. And there is absolutely ZERO chance this Senate would convict Obama, no matter what the charges. Hell, he could be filmed handing over America’s highest classified secrets to al-Queda and the Reid-controlled Senate would not convict him. There is absolutely nothing Obama would or could do for which a Reid-controlled Senate would convict him.

Mark Levin said that Boner’s lawsuit will probably get thrown out of court because Boner does not have standing. Boner does not represent congress. He represents one half of congress. Levin predicts the judge will say “you have other options available, like the power of the purse strings.” After Boner’s lawsuit gets tossed out 0bama will be crowing and ramming it down Boner’s throat.

I think the word is out to the GOP. If we want to impeach the SOB, shut up until the November elections are over...and then let's see if we can muster a 2/3's Senate majority for impeachment.

I have great respect for Palin but wonder what's the heck she is doing here.

That said, she might be playing the role of foil for the GOP.

She brings up the issue of impeachment so they can shoot it down...thereby denying the Dims of the opportunity of using it as a means of mustering votes and cash.

Right.

House impeachment is only an indictment.

Removal from office takes a 2/3's vote by the Senate.

If, for agument’s sake impeachment were to occur, the very first task of the investigation should be to ascertain exactly who this “obama” guy really is. To get at the meat you first have to crack the nut.

The problem with Obama is I think the reality of his radical leftism has hit him square in the face and he doesn’t want to come to terms with it, admit it doesn’t work.. So now he is in that void where he just doesn’t give a damn anymore. He doesn’t want to come to terms with it , admit he is wrong so he does all this crap like go on a million vacations, hang out at bars, all this escapism crap. What he needs to do is be a man, fire the Iranian terrorist Valerie Jarrett, and turn Spock - make logic his religion. But he will never do that #1 Because he doesn’t have the brains for it and #2. He thinks the illogic of radical leftism will somehow work, but it never will because it’s illogical. This is why he needs to be impeached. We are riding on a ship with no Captain.

Do you actually imagine Boehner is waiting until after the Nov. elections to do something? Once the election in Nov. is over, they will say we can’t do anything to endanger the 2016 election. After Nov. 2016 they will say it is too late, Obama is out of office anyway. They will always have an excuse to avoid carrying out their responsibility.

Impeachment is the duty of the House. I wonder what would happen in this country if everyone was so determined to wait for the next guy to do his duty before doing theirs.

Do you know how impeachment works?

The House merely indicts...the trial occurs in the Senate.

I liken what Palin did as to planting a seed.

With Obama’s sheer lawlessness at the very forefront of things, with his facilitation of this invasion of illegals, the timing was right to plant this seed. This was a forward-thinking action. Moreso than just a literal and immediate rally-cry.

The lawsuit is a bad idea and could lead to a very bad precedent.

That is exactly why the congress has waited for an extreme emergency to turn to the courts. They have let Obama get way out of bounds before challenging him.

If the courts don't stop him now, there is no point in having a congress or the courts. If congress puts up any kind of a reasonable argument, the courts should side with them.

The Founders did not vest the House with the power of impeachment, but only if they are sure the Senate will convict.

Sarah is absolutely, positively right.

Obama has committed myriad high crimes and misdemeanors; the House MUST impeach. Let the Senate, then, do what it will.

Be practical. Why would the House impeach if the Senate cannot muster the votes?

That is nothing more than a message.

And it gives the Dims something to use to gin up the vote in November.

We need to wait until we know that the gun is loaded before we pull the trigger.

Do we want to send a message to conservatives that already hate the SOB...or do we want to remove him from office?

Correct. Since impeachment = indictment, if the person is indicted, by definition the “impeachment” works. It is the Senate’s responsibility to convict or not convict, but that does not annul, repeal or nullify the House’s duty to indict. If they refuse to do their duty, they are complicit with all the high crimes and misdemeanors that they refuse to indict.

Once the person is impeached, it is the Senate who will have to look at the evidence and vote. Based on that evidence and their votes, we can know which senators are complicit and need to be removed and which care about this country.

I have great respect for Palin but wonder what's the heck she is doing here.

Well, first of all, she is speaking the truth.

Secondly, she is acting out of principle, and not outcome-based decision-making.

Something the cowards in the GOP-E do all the time.

Something I am glad that our founders refused to do, otherwise, they would have never fought a war against the most powerful Army/Navy in the world at the time, Great Britain.

In a war, one does not act according to rules if those rules defeat the cause.

If the House acts to impeach now, it will give the Dims a reason to bring out the vote...and for no good reason since so far, there aren't enough votes in the Senate to remove Obama.

It comes down to this. Are your trying to achieve an objective...or are you just making noise?

This county is at war with those who want to destroy it...should we use strategy to win the war...or just yell about the injustice of it all?

I suggest "let's win it!"

And that takes strategic thinking.

The Founding Fathers didn't do that and neither did Jesus.

Sorry, but they most assuredly did.

They took a step-by-step process and tried to reason with the King and his men. At each step, the King refused to listen. While they did not tell the King all of their plans, they did communicate at each step of the way in a general sense.

They attempted to follow the legal process of addressing their problems/complaints to the King. When ALL of those attempts failed, only then did they declare Independence and from there war started.

It was a game of bluffing/blind arrogance on the part of the King, but, it should have been clear from the explicit/implicit communication between the colonists and the King, what each next step was going to be.

BTW, this is the reason that Jesus spoke in parable...so that the enemy wouldn't understand what He was saying.

No, the reason Jesus did this was two-fold:

1. To help make what he was saying make more sense to those he was talking too.
2. His parables were meant to confound those wise in their own selves and hard of heart. They were meant to make sense to those of simple faith and an open heart.

Boehner doesn’t have standing. He doesn’t represent Congress.

That has not been decided in this case. It will be done with a vote of the House. Once they vote on it, it will be the House suing not Boehner. There a good chance that they do have standing.

The flaw in the lawsuit may be in the language of the bill which may be open ended as far as the authority to add administrative regulations to the law.

I think Obama is nothing more than a puppet, raised to be the token president through which the true believers can wield power. Thus, Obama doesn't really give a damn what happens or what's going on, as long as he's fed his drugs and gets his special time with the likes of Reggie Love.

As far as the true believers go, the ones really pulling the strings in this administration, as well as the drooling idiots who vote Left, they will NEVER realize nor acknowledge that their ideology doesn't work. The saying that liberalism is a mental disease is very apt. As a life-long Californian, I can tell you this from personal observation. No facts, no logic, no reality will persuade these types that their religion is false. Th only hope we have ever had of keeping this country sane was keeping the real sheep, the low-information public from following the wrong lead. We failed there - the majority now think that Leftism is the true way.

Well, given that the Dim vote is entirely emotional, they need something to get the vote out.

On an entirely different level is my view of the State of the Union.
It is shot.
No longer is a proud union that created free states of civil governance.

No longer is a nation sovereign of its land.
No longer is a nation that prides itself on opportunity.
No longer is a nation that is of the people, by the people and for the people.
This nation has been overrun by fools that have no comprehension of tyranny.
This nation shall erupt.
