Life is a challenge these days in Germany if you are not a football fan.
You simply cannot avoid it. The media is awash with interest in Sunday's World Cup final, with the 'Nationalelf' (national 11) involved against old rivals Argentina.
The stunning 7-1 semi-final win over hosts Brazil resulted in football euphoria only seen before in the country when West Germany won previous World Cup tournaments in 1954, 1974 and 1990.
"Three days to go", "two days to go", "one day to go" - these have been the headlines from Germany's biggest selling tabloid Bild. It's the countdown to the final or the 'finaaaaale o-ho' as German fans always sing when their team reaches this biggest of big games.
"Only one more victory to glory" proclaims the twice-weekly football-magazine Kicker.
One thing is for certain: this is a nation with a yearning hunger to win the World Cup, a hunger formed in the 24 years of waiting since the last triumph against, who else, Argentina in 1990.

Its a historic game here - we have the first match up between Germany and Argentina since 1990. But now there is a unified Germany:
"All the past heroes are certain that the new generation of 2014 will make it.

The Germans are leaving nothing to chance on Sunday. Confident, prepared and dominant - they expect to win and to keep that date on the Brandberger Tor in Berlin next week.

"The Germans are confident that any Brazilian supporters in Rio will cheer for them despite their humiliation in the semis. Surely the locals will not support arch-rivals Argentina on the hallowed turf of the Maracana."
History will be made in front of the world in a rousing World Cup final for the ages.

Please, bring on the NFL season, a sport that actually involves action other than running around for hours on end, accomplishing nothing.
The only thing that makes soccer popular is that it is cheap. After all what do you need ... a field, two goal post at either end and a ball.
It’ll be carried on ABC and since this is the match of the century, it will have a huge US audience.
There’s nothing else on Sunday afternoon.
Its a simple game, beautiful, dynamic and full of passion.
Fans are very vocal about their teams and I expect plenty of it on display at the Stadio Macarana in Rio on Sunday.
We haven’t seen this since 1990 and I saw the final in Italy. History favors Germany.

I heard an ESPN anchor say that “Look at your hockey friends. THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME. Now look at soccer. The browning of America is here. The Latino population is explooooding.” I think they person’s first name is Colin. ESPN has contributed to the dumbing down of America.
I, for one, hope they win.
But I also hope that the return plane is sitting on the runway with the engine running. They can celebrate at home.
The possibility of Argentina winning is even worse. They are even bigger rivals of Brazil.

Well when the Brits play the Germans they like to sing “Two World Wars and One World Cup.”
Germany should win, they are the dominant team. But upsets happen, especially when one dominant team expects to show up and win. Hoping the krauts don’t get complacent.

It should be a good game. I like the way the Germans execute when in striking distance.
I coached a peek wee soccer team and it was frustrating getting them to understand that a good team made up of average players will beat a good team with excellent players, who all consider themselves to be Pele, gunning and hogging the ball.
They just didn’t get bringing the ball up the sides, passing, centering. But they were quite young and I didn’t coach very well.
The Germans are patient setting things up, excellent ball control, very disciplined. They’re probably right being confident but A’s big goalie may give them trouble.
You see the same things I see on the German team. And I’m a novice, lol.
I don’t expect a high scoring game. Like you said...due to Argentina’s golie.
I hope I’m not jinxing the German team, but I think they’ll smash the crap out of Argentina.
My prediction: 4-1 Germany.
I think I’d rather watch Cricket.
