Open Thread: Modern Music Links
July 12, 2014

Posted on 07/12/2014 2:06:30 PM PDT by Squawk 8888

As part of FR's new Modern Music pinglist, I am asking FReepers to help me compile a list of links to sources of new music.

The Modern Music pinglist focus is music from the 20th and 21st century, from Ravel and Shostokovich, through the Synth Pioneers such as Carlos, Jarre and Kraftwerk, and beyond.

Here's my start.

Live streams:

CIND-FM Toronto- http://indie.streamon.fm/

Web:

Kling Klang Studios (KraftWerk)- http://klingklangstudio.com/ Jean Michel Jarre- http://jeanmicheljarre.com/ CIND-FM Indie88- http://indie88.com/

Twitter:

Alan Cross, Music Historian- https://twitter.com/alancross Kraftwerk- https://twitter.com/kraftwerk Mark Steyn- https://twitter.com/MarkSteynOnline Ladytron- https://twitter.com/LadytronMusic Jean Michel Jarre- https://twitter.com/JMJarre

This is the Modern Music Ping List. Our topic is music from the 20th and 21st century, from Ravel and Shostokovich through to the Synth Pioneers.

How about a jazz/fusion tune inspired by Alice in Wonderland?

I don’t know where this falls into the rubric of modern music but as a fan of techo/trance I listen to Armin Van Buuren’s A State of Trance which is a weekly broadcast showcasing the latest in electronic music:

Dismuke.org is a site devoted to early 20th century popular music. It's one of the older music sites on the Internet, and many of its sound files are in Real Audio.

Spotify is by far the best and easiest to find new music, IMO.

Now I must tell this silly story. I was in the car with hubby and something had happened that caused us to lose the pre-sets on the Sirius Radio. So I was re-setting them and hubby said: put 50s on 5, 60s on 6, and so on, and stop when you get to Men Without Hats.
