FIFA World Cup Final to be filmed in pioneering 360° Ultra HD

The 2014 FIFA World Cup™ Production of the Final Match will pioneer a 360-degree viewing experience thanks to a panoramic, Ultra HD OmniCam developed by scientists at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin.

Football fans will be able to re-live all the drama and emotion of the 13 July match between Germany and Argentina in this ground-breaking format for the first time at the new FIFA World Football Museum in Zürich, which is scheduled to open its doors to the public in early 2016.

The innovation is the latest visual technology to be introduced by FIFA as part of the production of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, alongside live 4K and 8K productions of matches and a multimedia revolution in sports entertainment.

Positioned at the halfway line, the OmniCam will record the complete stadium in one panoramic view. This means that soccer matches can be watched on the 360° or 180° screens of future panoramic cinemas, as if the viewer is sitting in the stadium watching the match in person.

Germany vs. Argentina: a clash of styles in the World Cup Final
Germany will meet Argentina on Sunday to determine the 2014 World Cup champion. It will either be Germany’s fourth World Cup or Argentina’s third, and either the first World Cup won by a European team in the Western Hemisphere or the second time one of Brazil’s neighbors to the south has risen to glory at a Brazilian World Cup. It is also a meeting of the tournament’s best attacking team and its best defensive team.

Brazil plans massive security presence for World Cup final
No one can accuse Brazil of scrimping on security for soccer's biggest event. The country totaled nearly a billion dollars in security costs, five times what South Africa spent during the 2010 cup.

Come Sunday, Rio de Janeiro may look like an occupied city. Twenty-five thousand troops, military police, firefighters and national guardsmen are being deployed, the largest ever in the city's history.

Netherlands add to Brazil's misery, claim third place in World Cup
Brazil endured their first set of back-to-back losses on home soil since 1940, losing the third place game at their World Cup to the Netherlands 3-0 in Brasilia on Saturday night.

The result concluded what local media have called an "$11 billion nightmare" for the hosts, and while that seems cruel considering the great entertainment we have seen here this summer, there is no mistaking the depth of Brazil's humiliation.

A study by Cambridge University Press, analysing millions of words from various media sources, has just come up with the top three adjectives that have been used to describe the 32 teams in this World Cup. Germany’s are “powerful”, “focused’ and “committed” (Argentina: “confident”, “flair” and “unconvincing”).

Germany, Argentina renew World Cup rivalry
Germany and Argentina will renew their World Cup rivalry on Sunday when they meet in the final at the Maracana.

The two fabled nations have a history of squaring off in World Cup finals as they met one another in the 1986 finale and again in 1990.

In 1986, Argentina, led by Diego Maradona, edged West Germany for the title behind a late strike from Jorge Burruchaga.

But the Germans avenged the defeat in controversial fashion four years later as Rudi Voller earned a dubious penalty that Andreas Brehme converted with just five minutes left to play, giving the European nation a narrow victory.
