SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) Google has set up a special team to take on hackers and other threats on the Web.
Googles new initiative, dubbed Project Zero, aims to hunt cyber-threats and identify potential vulnerabilities on the Web that could be exploited by criminal or state-sponsored actors.
You should be able to use the web without fear that a criminal or state-sponsored actor is exploiting software bugs to infect your computer, steal secrets or monitor your communications, Chris Evans, a member of Googles security research team said in a company blog post. Yet in sophisticated attacks, we see the use of zero-day vulnerabilities to target, for example, human rights activists or to conduct industrial espionage.

Ha. I bet they won’t go after the anti virus firms. Who wants to put money against anti virus companies creating a need for their products?
