It seems that people are starting to lose interest in professional sports. Too much political correctness, too many showboating antics, ridiculous player salaries, high priced tickets, performance enhancing drugs, and last but not least the excessive use of advertising. At some point it all just becomes a turn off.

You got that right - and for all the reasons you listed. I not only stopped watching the games, I stopped watching the shows about the games - i.e. ESPN.
I mean, what the hell is so special when 9 out of the top 10 "highlights" are 7 foot men dunking a basketball?

I totally agree with you, there’s an excess of excess at every corner. I used to be an avid sports fan, knowing who all the players were, their pertinent statistics, the standings of all the teams. Now it’s just a diversion with a couple of beers at happy hour time, I’m not emotionally invested in any team, not worth my time or effort. But I am forced to support the sports empire through my tax $ and cable bills.

Absolutely correct! Cannot fathom why:

1. The NFL has to wear pink during October.

2. Showboating players act as if they have saved the village from a rogue elephant after a tackle, 10 yard reception, TD, basket, homerun.

3. Players can act as if they are superhuman for making a slam dunk (on a basket one foot higher than their arms reach) but whine like babies if they hear the "N" word.

4. Tickets prices, parking and concessions for a family of four at any pro sporting event rival the amount usually spent on a vacation.

5. Present day parks, arenas and stadiums look like Little League ballparks with all the advertising on fences, let alone the rings around the arena and stadium, ice, uniforms and TV timeouts. Even pro golfers look like NASCAR drivers with all the sponsorship logos on their shirts and caps.

I lost interest because of the problems that you cite many years ago. The only sports I watch now are hockey which is not so politically correct and tennis which I don’t find to be too far gone either. When I was growing up tennis was considered to be a sissy (faggot) sport. I was in the sporting goods business and that led me to take up tennis at 40 years of age. I found out that it was not a sissy sport and was very grueling. I still play competitively at 73 years old.
