Gee wiz Megyn was all of about 12 years old and her writers probably even younger when the KAL plane went down. Sloppy yes, but hardly an indictment. She plays it fairly straight, yes she worked Cheney over last month, at the same time she destroyed Stewart and Fluke on Hobby lobby. In general she goes after liberals and their issues pretty hard.
Most of the idiots running around this country today have no clue what the term “Soviets” refers to. Most would probably say that Soviets used to live in Vietnam before America won her independence from Vietnam.

Megyn should have known more about the real story, but you can certainly find the idea that the Soviets "accidentally" shot down the plane on the Internet, on the theory (I suppose) that if the Soviets had known it wasn't a spy flight they wouldn't have acted as they did. I don't buy that idea, but don't see much to be gained by getting on Megyn's case.
FWIW, Wikipedia says that Richard Nixon was booked for the flight, but decided not to go.
