C_SPAN live will soon be reserved for cable or satellite TV customers.

New Policy:

Real-time online access to C-SPAN, C-SPAN2, and C-SPAN3 will soon be available only to verified customers of C-SPAN's cable and satellite affiliates. A simple sign-in on the "Live TV" page of C-SPAN.org with your cable or satellite company credentials is all that's needed to watch any of our three TV channels in real time. (This process is similar to what's now required to access most other "TV Everywhere" programs or channels.)

We like to watch Washington Journal in the morning to hear the callers. Now, it will be only via the video library and not real time. We liked C-SPAN’s coverage of the SOTU live and usually free of comments. Now, no more.

As I recall, CSPAN is owned or at least funded by the satellite and cable companies. While this may be an unpopular move, it is certainly legitimate.

I have the “cheapest” cable TV package from my friends at Cox (that’s what they tell me every time something doesn’t work and I call). It’s not cheap anymore. It sure is irritating. I don’t get CSPAN, but I do get two stations with people blathering in hispanic.

There are links to C-SPAN [scroll down to USA section] here, the third link has all 3 channels, online. Good for now.

Also, for those without cable [like me] here is a HUGE list [scroll down!] of shows in episodic order, no commercials, free, for your perusal.

May I suggest bookmarks...? ;)

You’re most welcome.

Some of the most important “television” around has been aired over CSPAN’s streams .

Perhaps the articles editor just wanted to TWEAK us,....by not mentioning the ongoing availability of those streams

If there are any taxpayer dollars involved in producing anything on CSPAN, this decision should be challenged.

Several cable and broadcast channels are doing the same. One can no longer sign onto their website to watch programs — unless one signs in through a cable or satellite tv provider.

That collusion helps the channels and the cable/satellite providers. It is nothing more than a way for both to maintain a paying clientele and deterring those cutting the cable.

The problem I find is that the ‘sign in’ portion is not standardized. Thus, it may work with one channel in one browser, but faulter in another browser.

Well, it does say “Online access to these three TV channels will soon require registration.” That is C-SPAN, C-SPAN-2 and C-SPAN-3.
Soon, C-SPAN will offer the live feeds of the three C-SPAN television channels only with verification of your pay television credentials. Once this policy is in place, the live feeds of our three television channels will be reserved for cable or satellite TV customers.

So, I guess we will find out what we can see live and what is reserved for cable or satellite TV customers.
