McDonalds Corp. and Yum Brands Inc. are facing a new food safety scare in China, denting the fast food giants efforts to shore up reputations and businesses that were hurt by a 2012 safety scandal in one of their biggest markets.
McDonalds and KFC-parent Yum apologized to customers on Monday after Chinese regulators shut a local meat supplier following a TV report that showed workers picking up meat from a factory floor, as well as mixing meat beyond its expiration date with fresh meat. The firms said theyll stop using the supplier.
The report, which focused on McDonalds and Yum, brings the pair back into the firing line following the 2012 scandal that involved chicken pumped with excessive amounts of antibiotics. Its unclear whether the meat supplier, a local unit of US-based food provider OSI Group LLC, may have sold goods to other clients too.

My attitude on these places is if you eat there, you deserve what you get.
The supplier involved probably processes chicken for a lot of restaurants and food products. Heck go to the grocery store and you might get the stuff off the floor.
The Filet-O-Fish is made from the days sweepings off the floors of Fish Processing Plants
Then again, its probably still higher quality then what some people eat.
Did they follow the five second rule?
I think in China its the 5 week rule.
In all seriousness, the mixing of expired meat with fresh meat bothers me a lot more than workers picking meat off the floor.
At what point in having food processed in China was this unexpected?
A curse on the business and govt people who have made this happen.
That sounds about right.
No, that's only with cat meat, since it has nine lives.
Dog and other meat is dependent upon the amount of siracha sauce it has had on it, but usually 6-10 days.
(According to Wackipedia Chinese Edition, as translated from the Mandarin)
Do you think the Chinese employees are members of the meat packers/butchers union?
Probably have their own “unions” over there, run by government
“If it’s on the floor less than five seconds you can brush it off and eat it”.
It’s used in many households in the U.S., particularly ones with small children.
I think of it as building a strong immune system.
I was in the Philippines a year ago for our production company and we were invited by an American businessman who supplied the McNuggets to McDonald’s in the Philippines. They literally electrocute the chickens and process the meat directly. They had sweepers who swept every debris and chicken crap that dropped on the floor. I guess the cameras in the place scared them LOL
As of 2010 there were over 1,125 McDonalds and 3,400 KFC’s locations in China.
It’s ‘blow-back’ against our society’s move towards excessive sterilization and germ-phobia.
I’d wager this same company processes food for McDonalds and KFC in the US.
