There was a lot “weirdness” surrounding the shooting down of that Korean Air Flight...
That being said, weird stuff does occasionally happen in this world...

But what happened is an open question. How could any one of us around here can have all the facts? It seems a perfectly logical, if wildly unpopular theory that the Ukrainians may have shot down the plane, possibly because they mistook it for a supply flight to the 'rebels.' Are we supposed to decide who the bad guy is in a whorehouse fight?
The administration's completely feckless response and bullshiite posturing is no help, and may in fact have undesirable consequences.

The basic scenario of what happened is not an open question. There are electronic intercepts of conversations between the pro-Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine and their GRU handlers in Moscow. These intercepts show them discussing the fact that they had just shot down a plane “they thought was a Ukrainian military cargo aircraft but after inspecting the crash site it turned out to be a civilian airliner”. That alone is proof of who shot it down. The GRU officer told the Ukrainian separatists that the first cover story would be that the aircraft was carrying spies. How ironic, that was the same first story the Russians used back in 1983 after they shot down Korean Air Flight 007, amazing how history rhymes and tends to repeat itself. There is also satellite intelligence that is said to have detected the missile launch and tracked it’s heat plume right to MH17. No there is no doubt about which side shot down this aircraft, the only open question is whether Moscow knew about the targeting of a civilian aircraft and/or if Moscow actually ordered the firing of the missile at a civilian target.

OK, sounds like it happened in the way you describe, insofar as those who release this information to us wish to describe it. What should the US official reaction be?
well, partisanship aside (there seem to be plenty of lefty republicans competing with lefty democrats), after just watching this video clip he seems to be further right (i find it creepy/disturbing that the founding fathers might be considered extreme/radical right by even so called ‘conservatives’ these days...) than just about any representative of either contemporary party:

it does seem apparent that if they were given an ideological choice between goldwater/reagan and buckley/bush, the latter might be preferred...

if that’s what obstructs regressivism, so be it - off to check what the synonyms are for enlightenment, liberty, etc. - maybe that’s what has some supposedly stemming from the right side of the isle a tad confused...
