Californians Will Be Asked in November Ballot Whether They Want to Overturn Citizens United

California voters will have a chance in the November elections to vote on a ballot measure asking them if Congress should amend the U.S. Constitution to overturn Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.

The Governor of California signed into law Senate Bill 1272 on July 16 -- the Overturn Citizens United Act -- to put the advisory question on the November 2014 ballot.

The group behind the initiative is Money Out Voters In, who were supported by Common Cause. Common Cause is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to accountable government in the public interest.

"This is a great day for democracy," stated Michele Sutter, co-founder of Money Out Voters In.

The case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission arose when the conservative non-profit Citizens United created a political documentary, Hillary: The Movie which they planned to air on cable television during the 2008 election.

The movie was seen as "electioneering communication" by the Federal Election Commission which has limits on the production of political ads. Citizens United sued to overturn the decision and the case eventually was heard before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Hey!

If overturning a decision from The Supremes is so easy, maybe we can look into that little Roe v. Wade thing.

Here in California, the Rich Democrats control everything. There is no place for moral conservatives who are responsible. We are a dying breed in California

Every once in a while some nut comes up with the idea to carve California up into two-six states. AIN'T gonna happen. No reason for it.

California isn't foreign. It's merely the Land of fruits and nuts, with flakes in between.

There were 10 million here when I was growing up. It then BURGEONED to 48 million. Hah, there weren't enough jobs for them all, especially since the incoming folks wanted to wash dishes for $30/hour. Yawn.
THEY made California that land "OVER THE RAINBOW."

California is now "down" to a mere 38 million. STILL too many people. I want them to GO BACK to where they came from!

"... asking them if Congress should amend the U.S. Constitution ..."

I hope that the ballot question is not being worded that way. Although Congress can propose an amendment to the Constitution, only the states can ratify proposed amendments.

Be very careful how this entry is worded on the ballot. The dems like to twist the language so that it appears to say the opposite of what you think it says. It catches a lot of people off guard.

If anybody gets a copy of the ballot measure before the election, be sure it gets around so that people can know exactly what they’re voting for.

you know what is ironic, all of these poor uneducated “illegals” the liberals want to bring into this country will only hurt the poor minorities. Less jobs, lower paying jobs and eventually less welfare because sometime in the near future the government is going to run out of “other peoples” money.....

Just another way to increase voter turnout and place the dwindling number of Reps in the cross-hairs.

Any ballot question in Kalifornia will be overturned by one liberal judge.

That’s how it works in a foreign country like that.
