Scientists find beef production harmful to the environment (yeah, this again)

Production of beef is nearly ten times more damaging to the environment than any other form of meat production, according to a new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

American scientists measured the environment inputs required for beef production and concluded that beef cattle need 28 times more land and 11 times more irrigation water than pork, poultry, eggs or dairy. […]

The scientists calculated that the amount of resources required for all the feed consumed by edible livestock and worked out the amount of hay, silage and concentrates such as soybeans required by the different species to put on a kilo of weight. They also included greenhouse gas emissions, not just from the production of feed for animals, but from their digestion and manure.

Apart from the effects on land and water, beef cattle release five times more greenhouse gas and consume six times more nitrogen than eggs or poultry. …

Funny. Before we decimated our feedstock of corn to make ethanol, we never had this issue.

Unintended consequences from the left once again.

On the subject of beef:

http://www.beefboard.org/news/140208usmef2013yearendstatistics.asp

...Exports of U.S. beef closed 2013 by eclipsing the $6 billion mark for the first time, setting a new annual value record. At the same time, pork exports declined below 2012’s record highs...

I wonder if these scientists know that each one of them produces roughly 3 liters of methane into the atmosphere each and every day of their inconsequential lives? And, I wonder if they have calculated the environmental cost of the food they consume each and every day of their inconsequential lives, as well?

I love beef!

And I’ll love it even more, now that I know that with each and every tasty morsel I eat, I’m pissing off “environmental” “scientists” (and Gaia worshippers) all over the globe!

It’s a win-win, baby!

They don’t need to worry. At this rate we’ll all be eating cardboard mixed with sawdust after the middle class implodes.

“They also included greenhouse gas emissions”

Climate change crap again.

That is why the left has hooked so deeply into this, and are hell-bent on engaging in zealotry to make sure it never gets discredited.

This is where they can use the threat of doom (that never comes) to get every kook policy they have dreamed of forced on people all over the world.

Get people to stop eating meat.
Force people out of cars.
Hike taxes.
Control everything businesses do.
Remove our ability to use cheap sources of energy.

You mean the livestock or the scientists? We can’t live without the former, but we could sure use a lot less of the latter, especially the ideologically driven ones at CSPI or CDC or PETA.

Well, real scientists aren’t. Pseudoscientists that act as priests for the new state-supported Gaia worship have to meet the same fate as the priests of Ba’al in Samaria.

As far as greenhouse gas production from beef / dairy cattle. If the grass in the field is not consumed by the cow what happens to it? It decomposes in place producing ...... you guessed it - greenhouse gasses!

And when we had upwards of sixty million Bison roaming the great plains and Deer and Elk in massive numbers, how was the environment harmed then? What lasting harm was seen, please show your work supporting these claims. What? I'll just have to take your word for it because you are a scientist? I'm sorry, you have received a failing grade.
