Zeke, the cat, apparently had enough of being at a homeless animal shelter. The clever cat got on the phone and dialed 911.
According to ABC news, after 911 was dialed and no one responded to the dispatcher queries, the call was disconnected. But then the emergency worker called back to make sure there wasn’t a real problem.
The staff member went to the office to investigate and there she found handsome Zeke lounging across the phone with the handset off the hook. He, of course, was blissfully unaware of the hubbub he had just caused.
His quirky story was reported on the local news and then nationally. Shortly thereafter a family came forward who realized Zeke was one special kitty and took him home.

My cat hit 911 speed dial. The Cops came over, woke me up and wanted a look around.
It took a while to figure out. The cat knocked over a lamp that hit the 911 speed dial. That was 25+ years ago. I have no cats anymore.

I was kidding.
I learned from experience that on a cellphone you don’t have to dial 911 exactly to connect to 911.
What do you have to do? Is it particularly easy to dial 911 accidentally? My phone occasionally unlocks into the phone contact screen but I’ve never seen it get into the dial-pad screen on its own.

Back in the 1980s, one of my sons was about 12. He had made friends with another boy at school and got the boy’s phone number in order to call him to arrange to go to his house. But, when he called, whoever picked up the phone did not say anything, and all that my son could hear was a dog barking. Turned out that the kid’s dog responded to the ringing of the phone by attacking it and barking.
