The band was founded in 1964 by John Michalski (lead guitar) and Roy Chaney (bass guitar), two high school friends who had previously played in several short-lived bands. After going by the name The Squires for a short time, along with several line-up changes, the Count Five were born. "Psychotic Reaction", an acknowledged cornerstone of garage rock, was initially devised by John Byrne, with the group refining it and turning it into the highlight of their live sets. The song was said to be influenced by the style of contemporary musicians such as The Standells and The Yardbirds. The band was rejected by several record labels before they got signed to the Los Angeles-based Double Shot Records, released as a single, peaking at #5 in the U.S. charts in late 1966....>wiki

The 13th Floor Elevators are in the same genre. You're Gonna Miss Me is a great song with basic rhythm, harmonica, and Roky Erikson singing.

Was introduced to this gem via the game Battlefield: Vietnam. Awesome song to have playing when piloting a Huey. Hell, CoD Black Ops also had a phenomenal soundtrack, as does the show Mad Men.

I’m only in my early thirties and I’m discovering (and liking) the music of the sixties and seventies more and more, not to entirely discount the following decades.

There was a garage band in my hometown ( still high school kids ) called Mortican and The Ushers . They’d carry a coffin out onto the stage , set it down , and the lead singer would jump out and begin to sing the first number . Those were the days !

"Psychotic Reaction" got a lot of airplay on Boss Radio 93 KHJ in the late summer of 1966. "Pushin' Too Hard" was a hit in December.
