A 33-year-old American doctor working for a relief organization in Liberia's capital has tested positive for the tropical disease Ebola, according to a statement from Samaritan's Purse.
Dr. Kent Brantly, medical director at one of the country's two treatment centers run by the organization, recognized his own symptoms and confined himself to an isolation ward.
It was not immediately clear how he caught Ebola. The relief group's Melissa Strickland said that he had followed strict safety protocols when treating patients.
"It's too early to try to explain it. We will have an intensive and thorough investigation," she said.
Across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, at least 660 people have died from the illness, according to the World Health Organisation, as poor, ill-equipped African governments have struggled to cope with the virus.

This, on the heels of a popular doctor in Sierra Leone catching the disease.
It is a dangerous disease. I know that health care workers are supposed to cover themselves completely with protective clothing, but I wonder if that is enough. Laboratory workers wear spacesuits to research the virus, maybe that is the only safe way to be around it.
I wish the best for this doctor.

Another medical professional - a European, I believe - died of it in Lagos last week.

The way the article reads, it should like he placed himself in quarantine in Liberia.
I believe his wife, and two children just returned to TX a day or two ago to visit family. There’s no mention of her husband contracting the disease on the brantleybunch.com.
His wife, Amber assisted with meals at the hospital/ELWA.
His children are very young. The Brantleys are extremely devout Christians.
No good deed goes unpunished.
That’s really too bad.
