Did anyone lose any money?
07-26-2014 | Me

Posted on 07/26/2014 9:28:33 PM PDT by Kevin in California

Went to the local liquor store to buy me a bottle of rum and as I stepped out of my truck and onto the sidewalk, there it was staring me in the face. It was so easy to reach down and pick it up.

Is it yours?

If so, please tell me the denomination of the bill and where you think you lost it. If you're correct, I'll mail it off to you....I swear:-)

Private property- it belongs to the owner. Public property- it belongs to the state.

Nope, it was actually a $20 bill. It kinda made my night as one doesn’t normally pick up $20 bills off the sidewalk:-)

I hope it was a stupid liberal who lost it.

That is odd, I just transferred funds from my account to cover his expenses and of course gave him all the data to access my account so he could send me several million dollars. Do we have a problem here? LOL

When I was a kid we found a total of about $25-$30 in $1 bills blowing all over our back lot like they were leaves.

It just seemed to appear out of nowhere several times over several weeks and was blowing all over the place.

Never did know where it came from.

While post 2008/09 has been pretty tight, me and some of my coworkers have always found, among other things, cash along the freeway. I’ve gotten a couple hundred, plus a 1901 $20 double eagle and a couple nice rings.

Eyeball the windward side of fence lines, off ramps, etc. Look for shapes, NOT “concepts”. You’re looking for green rectangles and circles and/or shiny things :-)

Three times in my life, I've found money. Once up in Portland, OR; I'd just exited a Shari's Restaurant, paused to light up a cigarette and lo and behold, right in front of me....a $100 bill. In Prague, I found a 1000 Kč note (about $50) on the tram seat I was just about to sit down on. There was no one else in the tram car - just me, and I didn't see anyone get off the tram before I entered, so it must've been sitting there for at least a few minutes between stops. Then in Berlin, I exited a Kaiser's grocery store, turned to my left, and a €200 (close to $270) note blew up on a gust of wind right into my face. At first I thought it was some kind of funny-money or a joke bill, but I looked it closely and it was indeed the real deal. It's not commonly used in the EU, hence my surprise. Again, I looked, and there was no one around - just me. Now if only a big fat bag of dollars or euros fall from the heavens and land on my balcony, I'd be happy as a clam. :D

I’m a dumba$$. I was in Walmart early one morning and went to get $200 from the ATM. In the hopper was a $20 bill.

I walked over to the lady at the service desk and asked her if she could make a PA announcement or something “I’m not allowed to do that. I can turn it in to the ‘something office’ here is all I can do.” I figured somebody in the store might be missing it.

She then went in the back, supposedly to the ‘something office’ and there went that $20 bucks.

I swear this is a the truth . . . I just cashed my check at the California bank you were walking by and they gave me my newly-minted trillion dollar bill. I was just on my way to pay down the national debt - then somehow I dropped it. The winds of fortune apparently deposited the bill at your feet.

Thank you so much for finding it, but it will probably be too expensive to mail such a large bill what with package and handling and all . . . so just send me the tax on it which should be around $21.35 - but you can round It off to $20.

Thank you bery, bery much.

I found a wallet in the middle of the street. No money but a name and a phone number. I called the woman and told her I had found her wallet. When she came to pick it up she looked inside and said a $100 bill was missing. I didn’t take her money, in fact I suspect she had never seen a $100 bill in her whole life!

A few years ago we found a wallet in the middle of a country road in Oklahoma, we took it to the police dept. in Ardmore. The policeman grilled me like he thought I had stolen it.

I think I will leave the next wallet I find in the street! I don’t like to be accused of doing things I would never do, like steal a wallet!

Back then it was a whole lot of money, especially for a kid to find wasn’t it.

Back when we found it blowing all over the place, must have been 1961 maybe 62, there were people doing oilfield work bringing home maybe $200/month and that would be for 60 or more hours work/week.

The $25-$30 we found was a lot of money.

There was 3 or 4 of us that found it. I found $12 because I kept going out day after day looking for more.

I/we would pick it all up one day then maybe a few days or a week later just like magic more money would appear and be blowing all over the place.

Being kids we have visions of bank robbers coming to get us because we had their money.

When I was working out for Marine Boot camp many years ago, I used to run up and down Revere Beach in Massachusetts around sunrise. Back in those days, there were some run-down nightclubs along the strip. On several occasions, I spotted bills blowing around that area, most likely falling out of the pockets of drunks reaching for their car keys to go home. One one occasion, I found close to $150 in 10s and 20s blowing around the parking lot in one of them.

Back in those days, that was a decent amount of money to find.

$150 isn’t too shabby even now to just be picking up.

Most I ever found at one time was a $20 in field across from a grocery store. It was faded so it had been there a good while.

Take the found wallet and put it in a U.S. mailbox. If you want to be extra paranoid make sure you don't get your fingerprints on it.

I dropped my wallet once near a school and a nice lady who worked there found it kept it for me. Also, I was on vacation in Ireland and lost a wallet somewhere, probably carelessly left it in a cab. Not a huge deal, about $80 and no important papers.
