Boy Battling Inoperable Brain Tumor Gets More Than 100,000 Birthday Cards

A Massachusetts boy battling an inoperable brain tumor had an extra special birthday party on Saturday.

Danny Nickerson turned 6 on Friday. He was escorted by more than 100 police officers from across the state to Gillette Stadium, where the New England Patriots players were practicing. Both police and players sang “Happy Birthday” to Nickerson.

It’s great to see this outpouring of support for the little guy.

It’s not in the story, but I did some checking. It looks like the type of cancer this young boy is facing is called Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). He’s got a very tough road ahead of him, unfortunately. So it’s doubly-heartwarming to see so many people turn out for him.

Big big story here in the Gay State...lots of local coverage.A police motorcade,a visit to the Patriots training camp,hundreds of thousands of birthday cards...the whole works! I worked for years in a major hospital that didn't have a pediatric service because there was a major pediatric hospital literally next door.As tough as it was seeing 85 year olds die I never could have handled watching a 5 year old die.It would have broken my heart.
