Legislation passed late in the session in March will put one issue on the November ballot for voters whether Boy Scouts Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve will be able to rent its property and facilities to other organizations, and not pay property taxes on its 10,600 acres in Fayette County.
Sen. Mike Green, D-Raleigh, said he thinks the continued promoting of the area is a good idea.
I think anything we can do to promote this area of the state and that facility is a wonderful opportunity to showcase what we have to offer, Green said. But we have to be cautious to not put our existing, for-profit businesses at a disadvantage. I think/ hope we can work together to ensure (that).
Green said he is excited about future opportunities with the Scout Reserve.
We can promote the Bechtel Reserve and all the wonderful amenities there and also have that be a plus to our local economy, he continued.
