cannot send email(receive only) Outlook Express

Email suddenly stopped working. I have not changed any settings recently,but only the send function has failed(I can still receive email)

Error message is:Account: 'pop.secureserver.net', Server: 'smtpout.secureserver.net.', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 80, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

Tried system restore to an earlier date, but that did not work either.

I’m not a tech guy but when i can only receive emails and not send, I have to delete emails or vault some to clear up space. Just an idea.

I used to get that crap all the time. A lot of the time it was my host. If you tried to login and had the wrong password just once it would lock up the account for 24 hours. Or you tried to login with 2 computers etc... Just double check your password and wait.

Also my Outlook Express XP computer crashed last week and is now junk. I bought a Mac and a Win 7. We’ll see which lasts the longest! lol

If it is not your pop settings it may be a nasty root virus that is in the registry somewhere. Try downloading some root kill programs like Norton Power eraser. You may have to reformat the computer.

Phew there are some red herrings on this thread.

You didn’t specify your mail provider/ISP which would be useful info.

The outgoing server, as someone said, is the SMTP server.

smtp.secureserver.net is GoDaddy’s baby
so is
smtpout.secureserver.net

According to their support info, the port number for their (outgoing) SMTP is 465, not 80 (80 is typically used for web/html traffic). SSL (secure sockets layer) must also be enabled.

This information can be viewed/changed in your account setup in your mail client.

It’s possible, but unlikely, that the settings were changed by malicious software. It’s also possible, but unlikely, that malware has changed your DNS settings and put a stealth proxy server ID in place that redirects and/or interferes with your internet traffic.

If you can launch a command prompt, type

ping smtpout.secureserver.net [enter]

on my system that address resolves to:
173.201.192.101

You should get four replies from that IP address meaning the basic path to the server exists. If it does, then it’s a configuration problem. If no replies are received, the problem is outside your e-mail client.

Sounds daunting but it’s just a process of elimination.

Apr 9, 2007 - You may have a virus related to a photo if you have an antivirus scan you´re computer and the virus may gone, the photo virus are not serious.

Change your outgoing port to 587 or 25

If you are using SSL it would 465.

Make sure your password is correct and also that "outgoing server requires authentication" is set to "use same settings as incoming server"

I have had that happen a few times. You just have to go in and change your settings. If you have ATT they will walk you through it.

Your settings are correct (so far as you have listed them) for GoDaddy. What is probably the problem is a corrupt email in your outbox or something has hung your antivirus scanner up where it won’t relay. Have you tried restarting, and what AV package do you have?

GoDaddy’s outbound server for SMTP is configured to not use port 25, only 80, 587 and 3535.

If you have had an update recently, IE, Firefox, etc at times these might change that email pop/SMTP Happened once here when Firefox upgraded. Calling the ISP provider who was helpful in restoring the proper information. Now give and take. Good luck.

godaddy fixed me up.when renewal time comes, I may switch to their exchange server service from my dinosaur pop version.

having the same email address for the past 15 years has resulted in mucho el spamo.

AVG is known to hiccup occasionally and block incoming and outgoing email server connections. Have you tried restarting and updating AVG?

So how do I move all my old emails from Vista to the new 8.1?

Depends on the e-mail app. Many have a personal information store (PST), if you’ve got those you can move it across. If it’s not something using a standard file then you probably need to do some sort of export and import.
