THE Lagos state government has however allayed fears that some of the contacts may have been manifesting symptoms of the virus. Already, medical personnel from Canada are already in Nigeria working with their counterparts at the hospital where the victims died on how to control the spread of the virus. Hotlines have also been provided to enable members of the public pass information on any suspected case of the virus.

INDICATIONS emerged, yesterday, that one of the 15 airport contacts that assisted the late Liberian, Mr. Patrick Sawyer, that died of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, may have contracted the deadly virus.

Unconfirmed reports revealed that already the contact has begun to manifest symptoms of Ebola Virus.

According to a member of the Joint Federal and State Team on Ebola outbreak who preferred anonymity; one of the persons who accompanied late Patrick Sawyer is already showing signs of Ebola.

The reliable source confirmed receipt of a short message service, SMS, text that the person who assisted late Patrick Sawyer to move out of the plane is presenting symptoms, identifiable with EVD. "In fact, I just got a text that the person who helped Sawyer, the Liberian, to get out of the air plane is down with a suspected case of Ebola. You can see we have to be very careful. I cannot say specifically whether he or she is a Nigerian or in Nigeria right now. He is still being monitored as we speak," he said.

He added that the latest victim was among those who were being quarantined for having first contact with the victim.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina who responded through a text message said: "It is not true. We are doing routine surveillance, no one is sick."

The title is a bit misleading. “One out of 15 airport contacts” made me think that 7% of everyone contact in the airport has Ebola. In the article it is clarified that it is one person.

I didn’t write the title...LOL...

But yes, to the western English it is odd sounding and is clarified later in the article that one person out of 15 that Sawyer contacted has turned up with Ebola.

He actually “contacted” more people through dried vomit, etc. But maybe this gives some indication of the rate for brief but close contact?

He also peed on hospital workers when they told him he had Ebola.

I don’t know how to explain this man’s behavior. If he thought he had Ebola, which he must’ve known, why would he be going back to his daughter’s birthday party? I did read that Ebola attacks the brain causes mental confusion about the 11th day out from the initial infection, and I would suspect this was his problem.

There were 59 people aboard that airplane and an unknown number of ground personnel and others who might have had contact with this guy.

Do the math, and that breathless article yesterday about a possible 30,000 primary, secondary and tertiary contacts starts to look almost reasonable (and scary).

So many contradictions, it reminds one of the Nigerian scam spam.

He was on two planes and at three airports. Then I’m guessing the taxi that drove him to the airport or whomever it was. If a taxi then there’s countless passengers who sat there since. Same with the airport lounge seats and restrooms. Same with everything and everyone he touched and coughed on for guestimating two weeks prior. Geez, do they have self serve water and soft drink refills like the US has?!? Or water fountains? So, there’s that 30,000 number. The flight from Nigeria to Liberia is only 2 1/2 hours so no one can tell me he didn’t know he was sick long before he bought a ticket. Surely, his family knew he was sick but let him board a plane anyway. Stupidity times infinity.

As I’ve asked before, is anyone else wondering if others on those planes were headed for the US? Then it’s reported yesterday that El Paso, TX is opening an ebola facility. And suddenly the number of facilites jumped from like 5 across the nation to 20 with border state TX (can you say illegals) now having two of those. But, no, everything is just fine or Der Leader wouldn’t be inviting the Africans and their countless staff members over next week, right?

Because of the incubation period, it will likely be next week before we know how man of those with whom Sawyer interacted contracted the virus.

The thought that Europeans or Americans were on board those planes and continued home is frightening indeed.
