Adobe Flash Player updated - now can't listen to internet radio ( vanity )
8/1/14 | sushiman

Posted on 08/01/2014 1:37:23 PM PDT by sushiman

After months of getting prompts to update my Adobe Flash player I finally did so a few days ago . Yesterday discovered that I can no longer listen to KSFO , WMAL or WABC online - won't download . Worked fine before updating . I'm using Internet Explorer . Is there some setting in AFP that I need to check or uncheck ? It's in Japanese so I'll need the wife to take care of this when she gets up . Thanks in advance !

Did you get the notice prompts from Adobe or did you get them at websites? I never update from any site notice portal but go straight to Adobe’s site to update. Sites are lying about half the time which I find out when I go to Adobe and it informs me that I’m already up to date. They just want us to install malware.

Me too. Check the volume level.
I also found a work-around ... when I loaded the page and got no sound, I reloaded the page and it worked.

Prompts came direct from Adobe . It’s not a volume problem ; the circular icon on each site that shows it is trying to download just keeps spinning around .

Related issue: a good number of the websites I visit inform me that my Flash Player is "out of date." But when I go to update it, I get the same message.

I've unistalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled with antivirus off . . . no result. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, there’s your problem right there.

Have you checked any settings through Control Panel>Flash Player? Not many settings there but one might be off.

Yes. Uninstall Flash and install a malware remover like this;

https://www.malwarebytes.org/

One you run the malware remover, reinstall Flash only from the Adobe website.

You could try resetting your IE settings.

In Internet Explorer, click on Tools
Choose Internet Options
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Reset button (don’t check the box to delete personal settings).
Restart Internet Explorer

Also, you can delete content in your cache/temp files:
With Internet Explorer closed
Click on Start button, choose Control Panel
Select Internet Options
On the General Tab, under Browsing History, click on Settings
Click on View Files and delete everything that is listed (x out of window)
Click on View Objects and delete everything that is listed (x out of window)
Click OK to exit

Another thing to try is clear data in Adobe:
In Control Panel, select Flash Player
Under Storage Tab, select Delete All
Check all boxes and click Delete Data
Click X to close window

Now open up IE and try again to get player to work

Try one of the many online translators for Chinese - English translation or, for that matter. Chinese - Japanese.

Japanese “ characters “ are Chinese charcters , plus in Japanese there are 2 other writing systems - katakana and hiragana .

Hiragana ( 45 symbols ) is used to write native words for which there are no kanji . Katakana ( 45 symbols ) is used to write foreign words . Japanese use a hell of a lot less Chinese characters than the Chinese do , hence the need for hiragana and katakana . Everything is China is written with Chinese characters and they use mainly 4000 . Japanese use hald that many .

I never update software that works fine anymore.

I made that mistake with Skype some years ago, then found out that all the great features that were once free, were now paid with the updated version; such as screen sharing.

I never update software that works fine anymore.

Same here, unless it is a software I really trust.

I stopped at Firefox at ver 15 and the Adobe Flash Player of the same time. Later versions would not play nice with each other.

IE10 breaks another browser I use.

Some Windows updates create conflicts with other software.

Some 'critical' IE updates actually crashed certain laptops.

PDF files will not open in some browsers.

It reaches the point of being ridiculous. An update may fix one problem and create 2 new ones.

I also keep somewhat recent image file backups of my OS drive, so if my system does crash, I can install the image file and only lose the most recent installations. I keep my data fines on a separate drive partion & on USB hard drives.

Their is a train of thought out their that the Adobe Suite of Products have become bloatware and their are a ton of alternatives, no I haven't tried them yet.

Freeper Alternative Techie Input as to what to use?

As a tech side bar, their is a Palemoon beta browser for Android phones ( this is the alternative to Firefox ) and it is wicked fast..

I have been playing around with Palemoon on my laptop. I had tried it a couple of years ago and had problems.

However, I read that their 32-bit version is more compatible with the Firefox extensions than their 64-bit. So, I downloaded it. So far, most of my extensions/add-ons work great with Palemoon 32-bit portable.

I can no longer listen to KSFO in the morning, too, but that's because of what Sussman did to the show.
