The controversial death of a New York City man who was placed in a chokehold by police was formally ruled a homicide Friday, a move that will almost certainly place the officers in front of a grand jury and heighten tensions between residents and the police department, city officials and policing experts said.
Eric Garner, 43, died after being placed in a chokehold that caused him to suffer neck and chest compressions during his arrest two weeks ago in the Tompkinsville section of Staten Island, according to findings released by the New York City medical examiners office. Garners weight, chronic asthma and cardiovascular disease were listed as contributing factors.

My point - as a New Yorker - is that I live among creeps, ok? This guy has six kids - how many of those kids are currently in jail or on the dole?
I don’t support killing somebody over lucies (as I spell it) but this guy was a bad guy, in bad health, and he paid a price for resisting arrest. Eleanor Bumpers, anyone?
But apparently you don't have any problem with it when it happens.
In the immortal words of Bob Dole: stop lying about my record.
Typical! In looking at your home page, I see you live in rural Missouri - no where near an inner city.
I guess you figure that Kansas City has no inner city. It does, but our cops don't strangle their suspects.
I think I summed it up accurately based on your post. You said you don't support killing suspects and then went on to explain away is death and link him with some crazy woman that your police also killed.
You live in rural Missouri according to what I read. I live in NYC where this occurred. If you were to look at my first post on this story, I was appalled that someone could die over a lucie. But this guy had 31 priors - he was an accident waiting to happen. Or a murder, whatever. We went through this with Eleanor Bumpers - another obese crook who died in police custody and the foul-mouthed obese pregnant woman who resisted arrest after grilling on her stoop. The obnoxious, self-defeating resisting of arrests by inner-city blacks is the constant in these stories.
I understand you are upset about police brutality but I’ll concentrate on the shooting of dogs for my outrage.
I remember my parents sitting up with them many a night.
statist???
YOU: ...but when they say that you are under arrest, they have the right to shoot you if you do not comply...
Yes.
My point - as a New Yorker - is that I live among creeps, ok?
..........................................................
You belong among creeps.
And you stink on ice as we NYers say.
As I’ve written on this thread, too many people in the inner city of NYC resist arrest. Once you do that, all bets are off.
I’ve actually visited people in jail (the famous Tombs, not prison) in NYC and I can’t believe the rotten behavior of African-Americans VISITING their family members while they were behind bars. They get it back in the teeth from cops, I might add. What a nightmare!
This is very different from a cop walking onto someone’s lawn in suburbia and shooting a Yorkie dead because it wagged its tail. These cop haters need to educate themselves.
All bets are off huh? Sounds like a violent threat. All bets are off like they exhibited with Garner? Boy they sure showed him who was boss.
Does that threat also include the elderly, young kids, the mentally ill, those who don't live in the inner city and those who've possibly committed simple insignificant infractions? They gunna show them who's boss too, like the drunk who just got his head slammed into a concrete floor of a cell, causing severe injury? Video of that too.
Ya think the people will all just continue sit by and take this over, over as widespread distrust for law enforcement/government continues to grow?
Ya think there will be no repercussions created from this widespread escalating distrust?
You evaded the questions...That was a big surprise.
If I can answer your tangled questions (if I’ve got them straight), my answer is that the inner city of NY is fighting back courageously with rapes, murders and broken glass crimes! DeBlasio (aka Warren Wilhelm) happily got rid of Stop & Frisk laws so that my fellow freepers could rejoice in their beloved black people committing atrocities.
BTW ms. marmalade, there were clearly other ways this could have been handled. There was no need to attack this guy they way it occurred. There was no hurry to make an arrest.
The worse this guy was doing was what? Selling cigs or whatever he was standing there doing? What did this guy do? He tried to plead and reason with them, and they resorted to what ya see on the video. That just wasn’t needed.
No, he was not some educated wall street suit, so ya deal with what ya have. Ya don’t treat them like some foreign enemy or treat them like some violent moron who just robbed the local liquor store at gun point.
There are ways to deal with people Missy. If ya spend enough time on the streets, most eventually figure that out. Otherwise you gunna get entire cities pissed off.
No, that's BS....Anyone could understand them... See the tagline.. You just evaded them.
What??
I'm talking about this event, not some violent atrocities...
What are you talking about?
Is this more deception?
Stop calling me “missy,” if you want a decent answer. I probably am 20 years older than you.
Some of us - who have gone through NYC in the 60s, 70s and 80s and early 90s are concerned about our neighborhoods turning back into hellholes with wolf packs raping up the Upper East Side. We know that people who have priors are capable of escalating crimes into rape, murder and mayhem. That’s what the whole theory of “broken windows” is about.
The judicial system will decide whether these cops were guilty of murder so I, personally, don’t worry about it.
But I’m glad all of you freepers out there in rural and suburban land are so supportive of our left-wing mayor who is so upset about this tragedy that he brought in your beloved Al Sharpton to sit on a panel and pontificate about it. He’ll probably testify at the cops’ trial! I can’t wait, he’s such a mensch.
