SALVATION COMES ONLY THROUGH BIRD JESUS

Do you ever read the bible and think, "This would be so much better with birds?" Then this is for you.

Well ...that is L.A.M.E.

SNL goes thru periods of being totally unfunny. They finally put a decent team together that all leaves to further their careers. Then they have to start from scratch...again.

I really think SNL may have reached the end of their road.

This country will receive the wrath of God, and it will be well deserved. The Sovereign Lord always preserves a remnant, but America will, I suspect, receive a full measure of his wrath, pressed down and running over.

Exactly!

SNL hasn’t been funny since the days of Jane Curtain, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Dan Akyrod, etc. came to an end.

I can’t believe it’s still on the air.

It hasn’t been funny since 1979 or so...

I've been hearing that bandied about since about 1981...

Nevertheless, SNL continues to prosper and unbelievably is about to enter it's FIFTH decade - absolutely unprecedented success for a show that originally came into creation because Johnny Carson didn't like seeing re-runs of his show on Saturday nights.

When Lorne Michaels pitched the idea in early 1975, nobody at NBC took it serious so Lorne and his staff basically had free artistic reign and created something entirely fresh and new. (The NBC execs were thinking this was just a "Laugh-In" knockoff and wouldn't last more than a few months)

Now many people who grew up with the show during 1975-1979 (myself included) have very fond memories of that stretch of time.

Coneheads, Blues Brothers, Steve Martin, Roseanne Rosannadanna, etc. That was a classic era! Though a couple years ago, I saw many of those episodes again, courtesy of Netflix, and I was surprised with just how many of those skits fell flat. But we don't remember all those, just the few very good ones.

Now during the 1981-1985 stretch, SNL was indeed dreadful and most of the original viewers tuned out. This was because Lorne Michaels also quit the show, along with most of the original cast. But they brought him back in 1985 and the show immediately improved and begin winning over entirely new audiences - younger than those who remember the 1970s heyday. Us older folk started going to bed early and thus missed out on the past three decades - which have been consistently good.

No other show has spawned so many successful entertainment stars. The "farm teams" feeding the SNL ever-changing cast (such as Second City in Chicago) have given SNL the momentum to turn it into an institution.

Also, technology has enabled us older people to see the show "on-demand" so we don't have to stay up past 11 o'clock anymore. Also, we can fast forward the musical guests that we don't quite understand or the occasionally awful skit that misfires. Although speaking for myself, the misfired skits are often the best ones! Like that Debbie Downer skit at Disney World where everybody broke character and started laughing, barely able to say their lines.

So it's easy to sit there and pine for an earlier day when John Belushi was wielding his sword and Bill Murray didn't look like he was 90 years old. But those days are gone and you cannot deny the massive success that SNL has had these past 30 years (since Lorne returned to the fold).

So give credit where credit is due.

As for last night's skit, I figured there would be some old birds squawking over that one! Personally, I didn't see the humor in it because basing the Bible on bird characters is a pretty stupid premise. But offended? No. I'm just not that uptight. I did like how they were charging $800 for it at the end. Must have been to pay all those illustrators to covert all those Biblical figures into birds.

SQUAWK SQUAWK SQUAWK!!! —Old Bird

Let me know when SNL does a similar parody of I-Slam.

One time watching the fake news segment (worthless) I commented before they started. I said, so how long before they bash Bush.

It was the first joke!

The whole thing was probably based on Jim Parsons’ love of birds. As opposed to Sheldon Cooper’s fear of birds.

They had to go with what they knew.
