He wants to catch Nicklaus’ Majors record. He can’t do that with his feet up on the coffee table. But he sees guys like Rory and Bubba and Scott and Rose and he knows he doesn’t have the dominance he used to. It’s slipping out of reach and it will drive him crazy.

Maybe he had a hot date with a fast food clerk.

Joe, that was nerve pain. The giveaway was he could not sit in the cart and had to prop himself up with his arm. Been there done that. The pain is excruciating. Worse than kidney stones which I’ve also had the pleasure of experiencing.

A year, two years. It doesn’t matter. I had the same surgery. Mine probably a bit worse since I can’t feel my dermis on my right leg from the knee down. But when they cut out disc the disc becomes weaker. Tiger has to learn to swing without putting so much torque on his lower back. It can be done. I still golf and score a bit higher than I used to but I’m a club shorter because I can’t torque my lower back like I used to. Either he learns that or he is done.

Worse than kidney stones?

I don’t think I would wish that on anyone.

I remember sitting in hospital thinking I could not stand up to torture, because I would have sold my kid for that shot of morphine when I had my 7mm stone.

Yea, worse. Imagine hallowing out your leg, pouring in hot coals while the nerves remain fully functional and the coals cause them to scream. That was my experience along with a 24/7 quadriceps cramp until surgery months down the road. Way worse than the kidney stones I’ve had which put me on my knees at one point.

Sciatica.
A really bad thing.

I never used to have much sympathy for folks who claimed “bad backs” until it happened to me.

Luckily in my case I was able to get it fixed and 10 yrs later it hasn’t recurred.

I blew my back out at work 4 years ago. 9 months later after much bs workmens comp approved neurosurgery. One day I had excruciating pain, the next I didn’t. But I had to wait so long I have permanent damage. My right leg is a bit weak and numb from knee down. no biggie thoug. I went back to work in a few weeks and the Doc took me off all restrictions in 3 months. But I’m 63 now and been working hard since I was 13 so my discs are all worn out and come 5 oclock every day a couple of something are in order. No complaints though, there are lots of people with worse and I can still pull my own weight. :-}

How long has his comeback been - 3 years?

Good to hear you are back at the game. I hope you are right about Tiger being able to learn a new way to swing. I love all the new talent at the PGA but don’t like to think that Tig’s career is over.

He is physically a mess, he knows it. He is only out there trying to make the Ryder Cup team. But I think him not finishing yesterday is the Dagger in that hope.

IS there such a thing as pain that doesn’t involve the nerves?
