Knee replacement may go poorly for people who think life isn’t fair

People who tend to blame others for their suffering and think setbacks in their lives are irreparable tend to report more pain after knee replacement surgery, according to a new study.

This is not the first time feelings of personal injustice have been tied to longer recovery times and increased disability after injury, the authors write.

“Pain is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by biological, social, and psychological factors,” said lead author Esther Yakobov, a doctoral student in clinical psychology at McGill University in Montreal.

“Studies conducted with patients who suffer from chronic pain because of an injury demonstrated that individuals who judge their experience as unfair, focus on their losses, and blame others for their painful condition also tend to experience more pain and recover from their injuries slower than individuals who do not,” she told Reuters Health by email.

Ergo, don't open up a knee replacement clinic in Ferguson, MO.

But DO open up a pain clinic in the area.

Of course life isn’t fair. My drill sergeant used to tell us, “Life Ain’t Fair, But It Can Be Fun.”

Fair?

My dad used to tell me that "fair is a weather report or a hair color." My grandmother used to say that "fair is a place where you go on rides and eat cotton candy."

Both of them taught me that "fair" was a word that had so many variations of meaning that it had no objective meaning.

Thanks. I think it applies to a certain group all heated up over events in MO. Black Americans will always be losers as long as they cling to a whiny, ungrateful, inappreciative negative attitude.
Black or white, one’s outlook, beliefs, consciousness determines one’ experiences. Encouraging is the most hateful thing you can do to somebody.

Correction: Should read “encouraging IT”.
Also when I referred to black Americans always being losers I was referring to majority or those who are.

Not buying this! I have an acquaintance - a star from the Metopolitan Opera in NYC - who had knee surgery and was in terrible pain. Most dynamic, hard-working man in Show Biz!

That's a logical fallacy.

Because people who blame others may expect worse pain does not mean that people who accept responsibility for their actions will be pain free.

I understand what you meant.

A person’s attitude affects his perception of events. That’s not exactly a new concept!

“Pain is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by biological, social, and psychological factors,”

Sounds like worthless psychobabble to me.I'm convinced that this world...this life...stinks to high heavens and the only pain I had after my hip replacement was when I tried to do things they told me not to do.

If the feral government wanted true equality they would make everyone get a knee replacement if one person got a knee replacement.

They would just infect everyone with Ebola if one person contracted Ebola.

In fact, between Obama’s DHS Army and Obamacare they are probably trying some of those ideas out right now.

“Because people who blame others may expect worse pain does not mean that people who accept responsibility for their actions will be pain free.”

There are no absolutes in human behavior, but but there are trends. A favorite leftist tactic is to take and outlier and parade it around as the norm.
