IT JUST gets bigger. The extent of the sea ice around Antarctica has hit a record high – for the third year running. Counter-intuitively, global warming is responsible.
Since satellite records began in 1979, the winter maximum sea ice cover around Antarctica has been growing at 1.5 per cent per decade. This year has long been on track for a new annual record, with 150 daily records already set.
The record was finally broken on 15 September and sea ice extent has increased since, according to data from the US National Snow and Ice Data Center analysed by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology in Hobart.
More sea ice may seem odd in a warmer world, but new records are expected every few years, says Jan Lieser of the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre in Hobart. That's because the southern hemisphere warms more slowly than the north, as it has less landmass, boosting the winds that circle Antarctica and pulling cold air onto the sea ice.
The melting of ice on the Antarctic mainland may also be creating more sea ice, by dumping easily frozen fresh water into the ocean, says Nerilie Abram of the Australian National University in Canberra.
The extra sea ice is a good thing, as it reflects sunlight and slows global warming. But the sea ice is expected to shrink eventually. "By 2100 we will see dramatic reductions," says Lieser.

Unproven hypotheses are not science, Professor Abram. And by the way, how come NONE of the global warming models predicted this phenomenon, if it is true?
But...but....the global warming crowed is telling us that the reason warming appears to have stopped over the last 15 years is because the ocean is acting as a giant heat sink and disquising true atmospheric pressure. It that was true then the the Southren hemisphere should be melting at record levels. These guys are going to sprain their brains with all the mental gymnastics they go through trying to explain away why their theories don't conform to the observable data.

No kidding. Then by 2150 we will see another record in the amount of sea ice. It rises and it falls. These people are blithering idiots.
That’s the problem with a “new scientist”. The cycle of alternating size in the two polar regions has long been known and recorded.
Well of course. Us not “super sophisticated” rubes are too stupid to understand the dynamics involved. Oh yeah. Did the clowns go back and pick up their trash from Sunday’s farce? Or did the corporate sponsors have it done for them. You know, kellogs, starbucks and the list goes on.

The important thing to understand is that global warming is only said to be responsible after the fact. The global warming “experts” have never been able to accurately predict anything. They have always been wrong. Their only ability is to create phony after the fact explanations.

There has to be global warming, and it has to be caused by humans,
else most leftist sheeperals have no cause for their own self-righteousness.
This is the secret. Express all of your predictions beyond the range of human adult lifetimes, ignore empirical data, and proclaim your computer models to be beyond reproach. Then all you need do is deposit the checks that the government keeps sending you to make these ridiculous statements.
