How Transcendental Meditation Makes Ray Dalio Feel 'Like A Ninja In A Fight'

Billionaire Ray Dalio, the founder of hedge fund behemoth Bridgewater Associates, has been practicing Transcendental Meditation (TM) for 42 years.

"Meditation, more than any other factor, has been the reason for what success I've had."

Dalio spoke at a Transcendental Meditation Town Hall last night at the AXA Equitable Building in Midtown Manhattan along with other leaders and celebrities. Money from the event, which was hosted by the David Lynch Foundation, will go toward teaching at-risk youth and veterans meditation.

Dalio said he got into the Transcendental Meditation because of The Beatles.

"The Beatles were doing it and so it caught my attention and sounded good. I started it and it worked."

It's widely known on Wall Street that Dalio incorporates the practice of Transcendental Meditation into his investing. He says that the benefits of TM are centeredness, calmness and creativity.

"Ray runs the largest hedge fund in the world. Lives a pretty stressful life I would think with the markets," At Bridgewater Associates, Transcendental Meditation has become part of the culture with many of the fund's employees practicing it now. For his staff, Dalio offers to pay half of the cost associated with learning Transcendental Meditation from an instructor.

He says meditation has been integral to the fund's success. Because meditation helps produce calmness, the employees are able to have thoughtful disagreements without emotion.

I don’t know about TM, but the ability to calm one’s mind intentionally is quite helpful.

Well-put. Forcing the ego to admit that it is not in-charge leads to many benefits.

TM is SW = Satan Worship.

Why do the wicked prosper? Because the ruler of this world rewards those who reject God.

Listening to the Big Band sounds of the 1930s and 40s works for me.

Your post “TM=Satan Worship’ is one of the more ignorant posts I’ve ever read on FR. TM is not religious and certainly not Satan Worship. I’ve done TM and TM Sidhis for twenty years and met privately with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. TM is a very simple form of meditation without propaganda. It has helped countless people (of all religions) for decades to reduce stress, become more healthy and have clearer minds.

Do you repeat a mantra given to you by instructor?
How did he come up with that?
Who else is using it (the instructor claims it’s unique, I know)?
Whom are you addressing with your mantra?
You see where am I going with this questions, right?

From what I can see TM works for some people. But the TM “church” that was built up around it is goofy and money grubbing like Scientology. Except Scientology is 100x worse and more money hungry than the TM bureaucracy in Fairfield Iowa. The Scientology organization is downright evil and vile. The TM org is not

I hear you get a mantra for $700 these days. In 1973 I got one for $25 which means initiation and so on and a few lectures. I will probably start doing TM again due to seeing how it helped Ray Dalio according to himself

Oh....if you are a cheap skate the TM mantras are on the internet for free

Over the 50 years since Maharishi Mahesh Yogi introduced the Transcendental Meditation program to the West, it has spread to over 150 countries worldwide and is practiced by millions of people. In the modern world of the Internet, every organization will attract some criticism, and it’s hard for the reader to sort out what is fact or fiction. I will be addressing the few inevitable criticisms from my scientific perspective (see About David Orme-Johnson ).

These issues include challenges to the research, questions about whether TM is a religion or cult, whether it has harmful effects, and about court cases, and on the Maharishi Effect and TM’s possible influence on society.

Science is not a good measuring stick here, my questions were about an affect on one’s soul. I practiced TM briefly long ago, observed some somatic benefits, but then realized that I am entering an unknown realm with only TM instructor as a guide. Sorry, in such endeavors I’d rather be guided by JC.

Do you repeat a mantra given to you by instructor? Yes, the mantra is repeated in your mind, not outwardly.

How did he come up with that? Instructors are trained on how to teach the practice of TM and give each person a mantra based on the person’s age, gender and comfort with the mantra. The mantra will not have specific meaning to you. I have seen mantras listed on the Internet.

Who else is using it (the instructor claims it’s unique, I know)? Actually its not really unique to just you. Others are certainly assigned the same mantra based on criteria above.

Whom are you addressing with your mantra? The mantra is not spoken outloud. You are not addressing any one. It is simply a nonverbal repetition that helps the mind to move away from concentrated thought for a short period of time. You can stop at any time.

“Oh....if you are a cheap skate the TM mantras are on the internet for free”

There are two aspects to TM.
1.) The mantra and 2.) how to use it properly. It takes both and the how to use it properly cannot be gotten from a book or the Internet. It takes a trained teacher of TM to guide the new meditator in proper use.

Father Len Dubi: How Transcendental Meditation Enriches My Religious Life

The mantra is not spoken outloud. You are not addressing any one.
That is what you've been told. Some people believe in power of prayer, and even atheists admit a power of thought. Christians learn certain prayers to address God or His Saints. Witches learn spells to address demons. Communists repeat their nonsense to summon spirits of universal slavery. Just think for a moment: what category your mantra falls into?

As Father Dubi (see above video) says, TM enriches his religious beliefs. TM does not teach you to be religious or to be an atheist or a witch. Those are your own callings or directions that you choose to pursue. I suppose if you desired to pursue being a witch, maybe with TM you could be a really awesome witch. But instead, as a Christian practicing TM, I’ve never experienced any pull in any other direction. I simply have more calmness and clarity of mind which helps me in all aspects of life, e.g. family, health, business, spiritual beliefs, and so on.
