Wow, ok, thanks for clarifying! Was thinking that was really odd, she seemed so caring to me.

...or I didn't like nor believe in Romney but HATE Obama and can't stomach throwing my vote away, again, like McLame

In the case of `12 (Romney/Obama) I saw it as a Morton's fork: either choice leading to the same result. (Seriously, what's one major political policy that Romney would be different on?)

(Morton's Fork vs Catch-22)

Some folk seem not to understand who our real enemy is - liberals, not a different kind or less politically strict conservative.

Romney is a liberal; and you'd be hard-pressed to call the Republican party anything but liberal given their unwillingness to act against liberal policies. (And, indeed, there's also the we're going to crush the Tea Party quotes we've heard from them.)

That's why conservatives lose much of the time, unlike liberals.

Conservatives lose because when the other guy's worse works to pump up a liberal candidate and put him in, guess what, a liberal's in.

Liberals know whom their enemies are, conservatives and conservatives often confuse those more or less conservative than they to be their enemies not liberals, so the most conservative candidate loses out to a liberal.

I hear what you're saying. I think one of the reasons we're fractured is because of GOP loyalists who insist voting GOP is the ONLY way to win, even when GOP puts forth an unacceptable candidate.

Your 1997 sign-up date is impressive.
FR has given me the equivalent of graduate courses in history and politics over the years. I can't imagine being without this place. There is always a FReeper somewhere where news is breaking. I turn to FR before I turn to the TV news when a significant event occurs.

This is true for me, as well.

Again I apologize profusely for not being specific enough

Hopefully now everyone on the thread is clear on who I meant

I found FR in January 1998 from a Drudge link. Freepers have to be the most intelligent beings on the planet and I have spent countless hours of countless days reading and learning. I signed up as Dixiechick (maybe had a number after it...can’t remember) but didn’t post much way back then. When I tried to post at some point, my moniker/password or something had changed. And someone else was “Dixiechick”. For years, I just lurked and learned. Re-signed up just a few years ago. Yes, FR has changed but it’s still the ONLY place to be on election night and debate nights. I LOVE the Freeper comments then. I still look at it every single day for news updates. I feel completely “out of it” until I have my daily dose of FR.

You bring up an interesting point about essays. I used to be a prolific essayist, and I had a good fan base of FReepers who couldn't wait for my next Publius Essay. Some of that material went into Who is John Galt?, a book by myself and Billthedrill. Every major event created a whole new wave of FReepers, and I found I had to prove myself again and again to new people before I could get respect for my writing.

By 2005, I had gotten tired of the effort, and I stopped.

Then in 2009, in collaboration with Billthedrill, I launched two FReeper Book Clubs, one on Atlas Shrugged and one on the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers. The first led to a successful book, and the other book is in progress.

I've considered a Publius Essay on the history of federalism based on a lecture I gave to a Tea Party group in Georgia three years ago, but with the most recent crop of FReepers, I suspect it would get five comments and be forgotten.

The current typical vanity on this site consists of one line statements that could just as well have been comments on an existing thread.

I remember A+Bert. Frequently could not understand what he was trying to say, but he was always entertaining. Suspect some of his classic posts were done after he had consumed many adult beverages.

No posts from Beckwith since Aug 8?? Repeat: What happened to Beckwith?

****************

Did you even bother to scroll through his posting history?
He’s had times were he hasn’t posted for several months.
Why not post directly to him and ask or send him a freep mail?
Use some inititive and don’t depend upon others to do your bidding.

You must do what you are called to do, Publius. There are many here who read but do not post.

There’s no call to be so rude.
I imagine its people such as you who have run off some of our FReepers.
