Footage has emerged of Jules Bianchi's crash at the Japanese Grand Prix that left the Formula One star with a severe head injury and in a 'critical but stable condition'. Bianchi required surgery after his car spun off and hit a recovery vehicle towing away Adrian Sutil's stricken Sauber, and FIA spokesman Bonciani Matteo told media on Monday the situation was 'very serious but stable' before adding that it was 'more serious than stable'. Marussia issued a statement thanking fans for their support and asked for 'patience and understanding' after Bianchi's accident on Sunday.

no way- the race never should have been cancelled- it was a freak accident in which Bianci hydroplaned off the track and hit a crane that was removing another car (Adrian Sutil)...hydroplaning/sliding off the track happens every week but sliding into a crane is a rare event...
we’ve been following the story with multiple links the past two days on the F1 list:

should also add its a mobile crane that was only in that position to move Sutil’s luck...it was an instance of wrong place/wrong time for Bianchi...
Sutil’s car- not luck....
Nasty...
Totally unnecessary shunt. The wet track was like ice. To hell with F1 officials for not stopping the race.
In those conditions, with equipment on the track, the race should have been red-flagged instead of running as a caution. That is something I have had a problem with in F1.
If you have people on the track, disabled cars on or immediately adjacent to the track, throw a full-course caution and slow the cars immediately. Safety first, last, always.
“.it was an instance of wrong place/wrong time for Bianchi”
Racing is dangerous but some of the risk can be controlled. He lost control in the same place as Sutil. Which means it was track conditions.
I will be fascinated to hear comments from Niki Lauda, Jackie Stewart and others who have pushed for better driver safety.
More drivers were once killed, before the safety efforts.
See two movies:

The most by circuit were Indianapolis, which used to be an F1 race.
‘em fancy foreign car races ain’t got a yeller flag?
And yet, none of the other drivers still out there under that caution failed to negotiate the same track, in the same place, and under the same conditions. It was a combination of things. Track, tires, car set-up, and driver.
two drivers out of what 20 remaining spun out there?
So 10% had a problem?
So there’s not been an issue for decades and all of a sudden they should red flag races in the rain in an instance where cars need to be removed from the track? 1997 in Fuji the conditions were far worse when Alono had a much worse accident in the closing stages. No red flag, no major incident, no freak happening.
And 90% did not.
Nicky Lauda: “Niki Lauda insists nothing “was done wrong” during Sunday’s Japanese GP although it “could” have been started earlier.”

Jackie Stewart: “Sir Jackie Stewart has urged against a knee-jerk reaction to Jules Bianchi’s Suzuka crash and calls for a Safety Car for every incident. “

Jackie is off his rocker to think there should be a safety car for each incident. It will no longer be racing.
The race should have been cancelled.
“em fancy foreign car races aint got a yeller flag?’
Yes, the corner was under not a single, but a double yellow flag. The flags were being waved BEFORE the corner (as the driver approaches).
The green flag you see in this video is for the section track FOLLOWING this corner.
All was as it should have been.
Re-read his comment. He's urging against using the Safety Car in all incidents.
Most of them probably hadn’t hit the corner under the rapidly worsening conditions.
All the cars had been by within the yellow during those worsening conditions. I watched the entire race, they started with the safety car on the track, under wetter conditions. It's very unfortunate. The area directly preceding the crash site was under a double-yellow flag, which means to slow down, and be prepared to stop, and that no passing is allowed.
The area immediately adjacent to the wreck did go green about 15-20 seconds before Jules hit the tractor, and I've not seen replays of flags in the sections just prior to the recovery area, nor have I seen any other angles of the crash (overhead would have been best), except the one. In the video I've seen, it appears there is a camera closer to action near the safety barrier that may have followed him all the way around the corner and into the tractor. It's a nasty accident, but all the drivers were out there under the same conditions.
I think, if anything, the tower flagger and lights right in that area should have stayed with the double yellow flag until the equipment completely cleared the area.
