(Reuters) - Texas groceries had likely removed by Sunday morning all ground beef from store shelves that was subject to a recall due to possible contamination from tiny pieces of metal, an executive at the company which recalled the product said.

Sam Kane Beef Processors, based in Corpus Christi, Texas, recalled nearly 91,000 pounds of ground beef shipped between Sept. 9 and Sept. 18 to Texas retail outlets, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a news release on Saturday.

Consumers in four separate incidents reported finding pieces of metal about 3 mm in size in beef products, and one of them reported getting a chipped tooth, the USDA said. The USDA classified the health risk from the metals as low.

That business is going to lose a whole lot of money. Too bad they can’t ‘eat their losses’ this time.

I thought most foods that were processed with metal machines went through metal detectors before packaging? I wonder what happened.

Same company lost ball bearings in the grinder over the July 4 weekend. Either they bought a new grinder from China or the one they have is so old it can’t be repaired.

Recall is so massive, at HEB, when you present your metallic burger, they only refund the purchase. They can’t afford to offer anything else.

Wow! I thought these plants used metal detectors to insure product was safe as well as inspecting equipment between runs. Someone did a Bozo No No!

Back around 1987, I got a whopper at Burger King or maybe it was Hardees, in Dodge City, KS. It had several pieces of hard orange plastic in the meat. Each piece of plastic was about triangular in shape and had sharp edges. Maybe a half inch in width.

I took it back and they gave me another one and guess what? It too had pieces of orange plastic in the meat. Fortunately I was not hurt and just threw it in the trash. Never ate there again but still wondered just how many of those plastic orange whoppers they served before doing something.

Label names and stores that sold it would be helpful

The workers that did this were just doing the jobs that Americans won’t do.

With the cost rise in raw beef, the only way to break even on it is to let the inferior processors grind it. Probably in your case an orange tub carrying raw beef got accidentally dumped into the grinder.. but for the pieces to be 1/2 inch, they were probably grinding chili-size.

Both these recent cases are suspected ball bearings blowing out and falling into the massive grinder.

If metal detectors were being used, they would have caught it both times.

grind your own. I haven’t purchased “ground beef” in years and grinding it only takes a few minutes and it tastes so much better.

Last Christmas my Daughter gave me a large supply of Omaha Beef.

I thought some of the desserts were really good, the steaks were just average and the hot dogs which fortunately there were only a few, were poor. The sort of baked potatoes were fairly good but the one thing which stood out was the hamburger patties.

They actually had the taste of steak yet were of course tender. I think I will hint this year that she just make it all hamburgers and desserts this year.

I’m currently in discussions with a Texas hamburger chain concerning a tooth that broke when I bit into a hamburger about three weeks ago. I wonder if they got their meet from this place or from a company that got their meet from this place and made them into patties for the restaurant.

It broke the tooth off even with the gum and cannot be restored. The only possible solution is an implant and those things cost a lot of money and insurance doesn’t pay very much at all.

Back when I was a kid I bit in to a hamburger that contained some metal mesh that probably fell in from the processor. I spit it out and got a new burger. If only I wasn’t a dumb kid at the time I would have ran to the nearest lawyer, called a psychologist, and sued for millions for my pain and suffering. Live and learn...
