Thugs come in all races. So do for example foreign invaders.
The 2nd Amendment deals with the need for a “militia” which is composed (Federalist Papers) of “all the people, able to bear arms”- to be neccesary for a free State.

It does not distinguish the race of this militia. So, NO is the answer, unless you are a liberal racist.

Someone should look up the NRA origins- it was started by Union generals to protect ex-slave blacks from white vigilantes— under the same kind of concepts.

Nothing like liberal bias. Always remember they are the neo-socialist Statists who would seize all weapons— and stop any effort at maintaining freedom from Tyranny. Hitler did it for his own warped State— what would stop do-gooder elitists from doing it here? We would.

Of course race shapes my attitude on guns.

I don’t want to be robbed, beaten, or otherwise abused by feral black thugs. Or white trash thugs. Or Asians, either.

I believe we form many of our conclusions based on evaluation of a large cross-section of iconic images and situations.

I’d say it would all depend upon behavior, demeanor and appearance of intent. Smug leftists in their pretty little enclaves just can’t quite envision that there are country black folks who behave the very same way as the white “gun nuts” they decry, while ignoring the destructive, fatherlessness and drug trade driven murderousness of inner city “youth” concealing all manner of weaponry in those sad sack pants they all love so, well past their sell-by date as far as fashion.

You forgot Bush.

I can't imagine why I did that -- I have no excuse. I take full responsibility. And in conclusion, the whole incident is Bush's fault.

"Whites walking down Main Street with an AK-47 are defenders of American values; a black man doing the same thing is Public Enemy No. 1," says Gallagher, a professor at La Salle University in Pennsylvania...The panic that would ensue at the sight of armed black men in public, they say, derives from the same racial fears that can be traced to the conquest of Native-Americans and the institution of slavery.

BS. It's because blacks are orders of magnitude more likely to be dangerous felons than any other race. The author points out that blacks are 6.5 times more likely to be murder victim (overwhelmingly by other blacks) conveniently leave out how many times more likely they are to be perpatrators, which is far higher 6.5 times.

I bought my first gun the day of the Rodney King riots...In fact, I bought three guns that day.(what was I thinking?)

My friend says that if you know how many guns you have, you don't have enough guns.

EGADS Man! Is that an assault rifle on your homepage?

Even worse, it's the dreaded military grade variety, when I was part of the well regulated militia, safeguarding the free flow of oil, or some such.

“Race shapes Global Warming because Koch Brothers.”

ROFLMAO!

You’re saying there’s something that’s NOT Bush’s fault?

Everything is context.

A different thought problem would have a group of ordinarily street-clothes dressed black men entering the lobby of the CNN building, with no obvious weapons. How many seconds would they be there before security was called?

Now let’s go back to their racial thought problem again.

Start with a group of white people, men and women, who are armed. The first time they visit, some people get agitated, but solely because of the novelty of the event.

Once a week, for a few weeks, the white people show up, and nothing happens, until both the business and their employees, and the majority of their customers greet it with a shrug.

The next week, several armed black people go with the group, and, as usual, nothing happens. And after a few weeks of that, with politeness and introductions *and commerce* all around, the group shows up, mostly black but with a few white people in it.

What is created is a feeling that everyone involved are “polite persons” and paying customers, so race becomes unimportant, unless somebody makes an issue of it.

We are talking about a culture that routinely shoots each for punishment. Ever wonder why so many shootings wind up with gunshots in the legs and butt. Some of it is bad marksmanship, but it is also a common punishment for breaking gang rules.

No one should ever think that black folks can’t get firearms. They get them from whites. Straw purchases, burglaries, etc.

One of the first groups to dramatically tout its support of open-carry guns laws was not a predominantly white group like the National Rifle Association. It was the Black Panther Party. Southern blacks were such strong supporters of gun rights that even the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once kept an "arsenal" in his home, one gun control historian says.

That and blacks in general acquiring guns is more like what I remember about the tendency of the times. Whites of course continued the practice.

Has it continued?

"With respect to race, whites were substantially more likely to own guns than blacks (27 versus 16 percent), and blacks more likely than Hispanics (16 versus 11 percent). But for handguns alone, the ownership rates among blacks and whites were nearly equal (13.1 versus 16.5 percent)." U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs National Institute of Justice Guns in America: National Survey on Private Ownership and Use of Firearms

That's from an 1997 article (1994 numbers) I'll look for more recent findings. It was the first hit in a search for gun ownership.

Demeanor and appearance are the key. A bunch of fully armed and tattooed Hell’s Angels toting AKs and ARs down the street would be of serious concern. A bunch of reasonably dressed black guys doing the same, no big deal. “Reasonably dressed” can definitely include being grubby, smelly, and unshaven, like coming in after a week of hunting.

"What if large groups of African-American men carrying shotguns and semi-automatic rifles started moseying into stores across America to tout their support of open-carry gun laws? " Already happened. No peep from the old media.
