Stars of the film adaptation, including Michael Gambon, Blake Harrison and Daniel Mays were all spotted in Bridlington today as they shot some outdoor scenes.

Michael, 74, is taking on the role of Godfrey from Arnold Ridley - who was 72 when he first played the character back in 1971.

The actor was seen brandishing a gun and wearing a floral garland as he stood in the English countryside.

Also dressed in their Home Guard uniforms was 28-year-old Blake and Daniel, 36, who will be portraying Pike and Walker.

Have you missed hearing Cpt Mainwaring shout, "You stupid boy!" across the room? Well the wait is over and super talented actor Toby Jones will be filling Arthur Lowe's big boots.

The Harry Potter actor will play Captain Mainwaring, while Bill Nighy has accepted the role of Arthur Wilson, and will no doubt bring an air of British grace and poise to the character.

The film's storyline is set to pick up where the TV series left off, the Home Guard are set a new mission: to patrol the Dover army base.

But all's not well when MI5 discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea.

Rumours of a spy brings the men together on a hilarious and touching adventure - but it seems that fans of the original TV show aren't entirely convinced.

There was much criticism of the film's world-famous cast when it was announced last month, with fans worried that it would ruin the memory of the popular comedy.

However, producer Damian Jones has since insisted that the remake will remain faithful to the original.

And judging by today's photographs, the set certainly appears to prove that the look of the new film is similar to that of the TV series.

The film will also star Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tom Courtenay and Sarah Lancashire and is set for release in 2016.

One of my favorite tv shows of all time. I'm sure they won't do it justice, but at least it's being remembered. The "Walker Brigade" episode. Nuff said.

"gets to grips with a gun"

What language is this? I don't recognize it as English.

Saw old re-runs of it in the UK. Funny stuff and I hope they do it justice.

I can’t imagine them doing a re-make of “Last Of The Summer Wine”. That would be too ‘regional’.

As far as I can tell, humblegunner hasn't posted anything on this thread.

What is your issue?

Who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler,
If you think we're on the run?
We are the boys who will stop your little game.
We are the boys who will make you think again.
'Cause who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler,
If you think old England's done?

Mr. Brown goes off to town on the eight twenty-one,
But he comes home each evening and he's ready with his gun.
So who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler,
If you think old England's done?

Wow - memory fail/meld. The Walker Brigade was an SNL skit from 1979, not an episode of Dad’s Army. That was funny as well though.

I remember this TV show when I was stationed in the UK in the 70’s. I’m afraid that since the show was so very British the movie may not be that popular here.

I think the recent flurry of film adaptions of TV series and even comic books is nothing more than an attempt to cash in on nostalgia and try to minimise the financial risks of making films (which are very considerable).

They MAY be able to capture lightning twice of course, but I would think the odds are against it. Dads army was too successful a series, and the characters are too tied to the original actors.
