James Dobson: America headed toward 'depravity'

Dr. James Dobson, one of America’s best-known Christian leaders, founder of Family Talk Radio, a courtroom opponent of Obamacare and, just recently, the National Day of Prayer speaker who called Barack Obama the “abortion president,” warns American is heading toward “depravity.”

In his October 2014 newsletter, a copy of which is available online, he wrote about the Old Testament account of Abraham’s nephew, Lot, “who chose to take his family into the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.”

“The men living there had become desperately depraved, burning with lust for each other. Jehovah told Abraham that their sin was so grievous that the Lord decided to rain utter destruction upon them. Abraham pleaded with the Lord on behalf of the people, but the patriarch could not find even ten righteous men in either of the cities to justify mercy,” he wrote.

“Why have I chosen to recount this biblical story from so long ago? Because I am convinced that America and other Western nations are sliding in the same direction,” he warned. “We have not yet reached the depravity of Sodom and Gomorrah, but that appears to be where we are headed.”

Dobson added, “Judge Robert Bork, the brilliant jurist who was shamefully denied a seat on the Supreme Court, wrote a book about this danger 18 years ago. It was titled, ‘Slouching Towards Gomorrah.’ I think he had it right.”

“Many influential men and women of the judiciary are leading us toward perdition.”

His blast at America lined up with the comments made by the Rev. Billy Graham in a Sept. 30 column for Decision magazine.

Only Graham didn’t hold quite as positive an opinion about America as Dobson. Where Dobson said America is sliding down, Graham said America already is there.

Obama has attacked freedom of religion, stoked racial hatred, destroyed our military, brought about fiscal insanity, rewarded the lazy, shredded what was left of the Constitution, enacted the homosexual agenda, appointed wicked men and women into the courts, trampled citizen rights, committed crimes, abused Federal agencies, lied to the American people, committed election fraud, solicited and accepted foreign money for his own campaigns (a felony), destroyed evidence that was under subpoena, funneled money from DoD and the State Dept to ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood, and betrayed our ally Israel.

I cannot fathom why the American people have allowed such evil and wickedness to prosper in their midst.

We are truly under God's judgment.

Dobson is correct, but I believe that Rev. Graham is more correct. We are already there. I can remember when Graham was the "Pastor to the Presidents."

He is truly a man who is touched by God - he is America's Moses. If he has said we are undone, we are undone. Pray - that is one thing we can do.

Well there are only two plans on the planet believe it or not. One is orchestrated by Satan, the other by the Holy One. Obama is following one and taking our nation with him. And you don’t have to be a theological genius to know which path that is. Of course there are consequences for abandoning God and sooner rather than later we will pay the price.
If more people had read the Bible rather than Fifty shades of gray we would not be in this mess. But we are.
I believe we passed the tipping point with the election of Obama and there is no turning around from the judgment that is coming.

Smiling experts assured us that we were merely throwing off the shackles of our repressed sexualities. Dissent is hate, and hate is not tolerated around here, mister, so shut up and get with the program. Well, I couldn’t get with the program, so I quit my public high school job. As a world history teacher, moving from a public school to a Christian academy (at less pay and fewer benefits) gave me a couple more years of insulation from the social wreckage cascading down.

I kept looking up for the big asteroid, but we didn’t need God to smite us from outer space. In the end, we smote ourselves with our hubris, believing that we were replacing God’s wisdom with our own. The proud decadence and in-your-face cultural perversions didn’t cause the Rupture, but they were surely flashing red signs warning that the end was near.

I had an old pastor say if God did not overthrow San Francisco, He would have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorah. Whenever I went to San Francisco, I got in and I got out. I didn't want to be anywhere near the place if the fire and brimstone started raining down.
