I worked with a woman for two years, her name is Abagail, and I nicknamed her Abbynormal and she had no idea what the reference was.

Heh. After that episode aired, it was still a few years before I was old enough to fully comprehended that line about “givers of pain and delight”.

KARA: You will have him back and we will be destroyed.
KIRK: No. You won’t be destroyed. You’ll be without your Controller for the first time, but you’ll be much better off, I think.
KARA: We will die.
KIRK: No, you’ll live and develop as you should have. All this shouldn’t have been done for you. Now the women here below and the men here above will control together.
KARA: They will not help us without the pain.
KIRK: There are other ways. You’ll discover them. You must move to the surface, you understand.

Having worked for a neuropathologist who was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School I'm somewhat familiar with the subject of brain research.IMO the brains of people who are noteworthy for one reason or another (Whitman certainly would be such an individual) or even of those who simply might have suffered from a particular affliction (schizophrenia, for example) can be very valuable *indeed* when studied by talented medical researchers.
Although many "civilians" (understandably) don't know this pathologists play a pivotal role in all aspects of medical research.
The loss of these brains could conceivably have a huge, negative, effect on the furthering of medical knowledge.

I know this seems like a good topic to make fun of, but I’m very good friends with a guy whose father was killed by Charles Whitman. So this has a different meaning to me.
