This morning was the first time the cobra was placed in her new home at the Reptile House, said Rachael Walton, a keeper at San Diego Zoo, in a statement. We expect it may take her a few weeks to get used to her new surroundings. Being a cobra, she likes to hide, so visitors to the zoo may want to look closely under the rock ledge or in the planter bank in her enclosure to get a good glimpse of her.

How did this deadly cobra happen to be loose in Thousand Oaks? The “news” story posted doesn’t say!
So the snake was someone’s pet and it escaped?Somebody needs to go to jail.
That would indeed be an interesting story. But that’s not what this article is about.
IIRC — the snake’s origin was never determined.
It's white, huh? Then I suggest RACISS, or HONKY, or PRIVILEGE.
CRACKER would work too.
I bet it would taste like chicken
It is classified as a polar cobra.
Since it was found in Thousand Oaks — I was thing “Oakie”
It was not a pet. It was a wild animal that can kill being kept by a fool. A fool that should be locked up for endangering innocent people.
but but but... it made him COOL!!!
An escaped pet was the “story” being pushed by PETA and HSUS. However, given that the cobra is a BEL (blue eyed leusy) and is quite rare.. and hence quite valuable. It’s probably one that was bought and released specifically to generate fear and panic in the effort to pass anti pet legislation in the state.
NJ had a somewhat similar incident this year with the so called 30 foot “boa” supposedly swimming in a lake. No evidence of any large snake at all was found and the guy making the claim was a PETAfile freak.
Another incident was the released croc here in WV. Interesting how the story died down quickly when the croc was identified as one sold to a known HSUS supporter from a neighboring state. It was deliberately released to generate panic.
Then in NC the Gaboon viper shed found in a mail shed in an apartment complex. Turns out, it was identified as a shed sold on line by a keeper in another state. Wanna guess what groups the person that bought it supported?
Are there escapes? Sure. It’s rare, but not unheard of. But snakes like the cobra aren’t going to go looking for people to bite. They’ll avoid contact with people if at all possible. I’d be more concerned with outdoor cats and roaming dogs.
used to be 1000Oaks was mostly white
...but if they’re expelling them now....
is this more Obammy racism, or what?
:)
:)
Best thing to do is go there an cut down one of their oak trees. They will thank you for it.
oak trees are beautiful but their branches can grow horizontally for long distances.
eventually the branches get thick and heavy and can fall off.
result — our neighbor’s house was cut in half
like so many things, oak trees are lovely ... from a safe distance
Good informative post.
As far as I am concerned, there are just two kind of snakes. A live one or a dead one. I won't kill a black snake or a king snake but that is about it.
moving the white cobra out
next
Obama/Holder will truck black cobras in
diversity comes to 1000 Oaks!
Beautiful. I’d name her Lilly.
The same way pythons here in Florida are now everywhere...
Because of the dumbasses and the failure of the state to stop it.
Thanks. I’ve been fighting the anti pet freaks for a while now. We’ve turned the tide thanks to USARK and other exotic pet groups. The lies and distortion told by the media and the anti pet idiots have caused a massive amount of harm not only to the safe and proper keeping and care of these animals but to people as well.
The Constrictor rule of the Lacey Act has shut down several lines of research into finding cures for diseases related to enlarged hearts, muscle diseases, cancer and other ailments. They’re about to add an additional five species of snakes which will further harm medical research.
Given that less than one person dies every two years from pet reptiles, not just snakes, but all reptiles... compared to dogs in the neighborhood of 30+ per year or cats at 20+ per year, well I don’t think they have any grounds to stand on.
