My Dad worked at the USPS, it was the Post Office back then. He always wore clip on ties. When I was a snotty 11 year old, I made a comment about them.
That is when I learned you did not wear ties around miles of conveyor belts.
He did not make me feel like an idiot. That was nice of him.
As for this young gentleman doing the best he could with what he found accessible, I applaud it.
I'm still embarrassed to recall what I wore to my first professional interview....eyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Ditto - my thoughts exactly.
I hear ya'. When I was young, in my late teens and early 20's, I probably overdressed for interviews for minimum wage jobs, too. I'm female, though, so it didn't involve ties. But, that's what I find so endearing about this story.
When I went to driver-training, though, it was a tie-tie. I remember because my beloved older brother tied it for me. I shaved my beard...
"We're sorry, that position has been filled by Miguel Diaz from "Meh-hee-ko".
No doubt in my mind that he would have. For any teenage boy shopping for a tie for a job interview (which is probably a rare occurrence). But salespeople helping customers happens every day. This is only news because the photo went viral.
LOL
Viral photos. That’s what the real story is about. But this one is endearing. Maybe I just see it that way as a mother of teenage boys.
He is only 15 years old. The store has a 3 part hiring process and manager said he is invited back to the next round.
Hands up, full Windsor!
I have a pretty thick neck beard. I always liked nice ties when I was in my 20’s. It was kind of “my thing” at the office. Except, they would last about a month before they started getting all frayed.
Too bad. There were some pretty funky ties back then. Now all of the offices are business casual. Kind of makes it sloppy.
We’re living in ø’s version of America, where every bit of common decency should be “buzzed over”.
God knows we need it.
“Hands down the kid is first generation American.
Hands.freaking.down. “
I think you are so right!
LOL, first laugh of the day!
Same goes for law enforcement. You don't want to be in a fight and have the bad guy choke you out.
What are you talking about?
The female Target employee asked a male colleague to help the kid out, and the male colleague did so by tying the tie. The last thing a kid needs on his way to an interview is to stress out over a lesson in tie tying, and the female employee did exactly the right thing.
And, if you wouldn’t hire some black teen applying for a fast-food job because he had a clip-on tie, I feel sorry for you. The kid obviously didn’t have a father at home who had made sure he had a tie he knew how to tie, but he did the right thing by trying to go buy one he could handle himself before his interview.
Jeesh!
Why do you say he is first-generation American? My guess he grew up in the inner city with a poor, single mother.
From the picture, he could use a pair of Florsheims. But I regress to the extravagant:
“Gold watch, diamond ring
I ain’t missin’ not a single thing
And cufflinks, stick pin...”
“Top coat, top hat
Well I don’t worry ‘cause my wallet’s fat
Black shades, white gloves...”
- ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man
Sorry...I get carried away to a earlier time when people cared about their public and professional image. :)
