It is a shame, because I grew up near Ross Park Mall, and it is obvious the area has changed somewhat (less middle-class, more black). My mom is upset as she lives here... It started 25 years ago here with I-279 and more criminals coming from the city. Now, driving down McKnight Road, there re just people everywhere at bus stops, coming or going from the dumpy city. It is shame and disgrace that nice areas are ruined by Rats.
The way I see it, 90% of the teens that are not causing any trouble at all now have to pay for the actions of a few feral hooligans.
I would not have been allowed in because my father had already passed away when I was that age.
If one mall cracks down, they herd of unsupervised yoots will pop up at the next nearest mall where public transportation stops.
The root of the problem is that there are very few nuclear families in inner city communities. Not sure you can fix that at the mall, police station, courthouse or jail.
Here are my thoughts on this ridiculous policy:
What if a 16 year old thug is accompanied by a 20 year old sibling who is also a thug? What good would this “policy” do? Not very much in my humble opinion.
I know other FReepers say a similar policy has worked in their area malls, but Monroeville is overrun with young, black “hoodies”. Not sure about other places.
These hooligans aren’t at the mall to shop & spend money. They’re there to “hang out”, and by that I mean shoplift, congregate, and deal drugs. Ross Park Mall has some of the highest-end stores in Pittsburgh (Nordstrom’s, Tiffany’s, Louis Vitton, etc) and it’s still loaded up with inner city garabge as well. I remember when I moved to the ‘burgh in 2002 Ross Park was a very nice area, and Monroeville wasn’t nearly as “dark” and trashy as it is now.
The malls need to spend money on security. There also has to be stricter enforcement of the law. Malls can call the police, but the police are now fearful of arresting people thanks to Holder's Injustice Department. We need a radical culture change — one that punishes crime to the fullest extent of the law — without fear of governmental agencies interested in protecting certain races and classes of people from punishment.
One of the things they did to try and save Century III Mall after it was on the path to demise was to reroute all of the buses from Amish areas of town. Instead of stopping at the mall they now stop up on top of the hill by Walmart.
That decision was made by a bunch of white politicians.
Of course they were all Democrats, so nobody cried RAAAAAACISM!
Also, Century III and most other malls no longer have bus service right to the front door. Most buses leave you off on the outer edge of the parking lot and you have to walk a distance to get to the building. I think malls got tired of cleaning up the trash the ferals used to leave all over. These slobs don't know how to use a trash can.
They must have observed that “teens” are the ones perpetrating the violence.
At the MN Mall of America on weekends they put up big signs at all the entrances and station at least mall cop at each one. If you look under 25 or so they stop you and ask for ID. Same as a liquor store would do.
IIUC, the "teens" in question typically travel in packs of a few to a dozen or more.
Bill Clinton is willing to work as an escort for troubled teens if the pay is good enough and they are old enough to consent. < /s >
You are right.
