Generic iPhone Charging Cord Caused Anaphylactic Reaction In My Niece
February 21, 2015 | Patriot777

Posted on 02/21/2015 4:05:29 AM PST by Patriot777

Very recently my niece bought a generic iPhone charging cord from a local Wal-Mart, and within hours of utilizing it had an anaphylactic reaction consisting of large red, itchy welts on her body. Her mother took her to a doctor, who gave her a 50 mg diphenhydramine injection, a steroid injection, and prescribed more of both in pill form to take at home. The very next day, my niece suffered yet another anaphylactic episode in which her tongue swelled up; she was again taken to the doctor, who prescribed her an EpiPen (epinephrine) and again treated her anaphylaxis. From the beginning of all of this, both her father and the doctor were investigating what could be triggering these dangerous reactions, and it was quickly pinpointed to a very fine dust that was in the generic iPhone cord's packaging, which had continued to cling to the cord's surface. As far as I know the doctor is going about analyzing the dust/packaging, and her father thoroughly wiped down the cord with both a baby wipe and an antibacterial wipe per the doctor's instructions. Again, as far as I know my niece has not had another allergic reaction. So this is a serious heads-up about buying generic iPhone cords at Wal-Mart: whatever the fine dust consists of (possibly a latex derivative?), it is potentially life-threatening. I know what the poor kid went through; I had an anaphylactic reaction in 1999, come to find out it was latex in a bathing suit. I am so very thankful she is all right, I know that that Lord was watching over her.

It was probably mold release which can be anything slippery including silicone, latex and Teflon.

I will relay your much-appreciated information to her parents; I had no idea that silicone and Teflon could also be a culprit in anaphylaxis. I will also make darn sure that I do not come in contact with the other named elements, don’t want another reaction either.
Thank you so much and God bless you!

Everything is dangerous to someone.

The band I’m in is a family and me. They are “live off the land” types and butcher all their own animals. They drink only raw cow and goats milk.

And I’ve never seen such a batch of food allergies. They literally cannot eat at restaurants because “normal” food is poison to them in one way or another. And when we invited them over we had to make both corn and wheat based gravy because one was alergic to one and one was alergic to the other.

People are just different.

‘Course, I say this as a person that will eat anything put in front of me (even tripe soup) and am alergic to NOTHING so I might be a little callous in my thinking.

Thanks for the WARNING!

And so, people ... don’t get these KNOCKOFFS for Apple products, they can also be hazardous to your health!

I think you misunderstand.

When anything plastic is formed in a mold(or extruded), a mold release agent is applied to the mold itself so that when the plastic is set it won’t stay stuck to the mold.

These mold release agents can appear as a dust on anything plastic. When you use cheap plastic, it can be very sticky in the mold and hence you have to use a lot of mold release to make sure it doesn’t gum up the works.

Common release agents include Silicone and Teflon. Latex is also possible as well. It can really be a whole host of chemicals, all of which are slippery.

Actually, it was the packaging (and apparently. . .yet to be determined).

A warning about buying from Wal-mart? Amazon has more iPhone knockoff stuff than any other place. And there are other products where people experience reactions and are not from Wal-mart (http://www.bestfitnesstrackerreviews.com/fitbit-force-review.html).

That is really interesting. I know restaurant food has a lot of preservatives, additives, things they use in preparation, junk, and things that go bump in the night (namely your stomach). It surely is poison to that family, as well as the rest of us that consume it. With what information you’ve imparted to me, it’s really given me a kick in the butt to make me take a serious look at what I’m eating. Because of my serious disabilities I don’t cook much, but boy-howdy I am going to start eating steamed vegetables and cook my own chicken from now on.
Yechhh! Tripe (cow tongue) soup? My spouse and I were friends with a couple who liked to cook tripe in their Crock-Pot. I was like eeeewwwwww~
I need to lose about 20 pounds, and I know if I eat veggies and lean meat I will. I’m a serious carnivore. Did you hear about the story that the gov’mint is going to try to outlaw the consumption of red meat? You know it’s going to go to meat altogether, then eventually to grazing and then some kind of ‘nutritional’ slop-portion however many times a day they allow. Sweet mercy, this nation is flying apart with a madman at the controls.

Glad everything worked out for her.

When I was a biology teacher (retired after 32 years), I made sure that the lab gloves the kid wore were not made of latex. A little extra money but worth the expense.

Yes, I did misunderstand but I do understand now. Thank you again for the information, I will relay it to her parents as a correction.
As far as when they utilized powder in latex gloves to make them slip on better, I wonder if they still do that? All the doctors I go to now use nitrile gloves per all the latex allergy (mine included). But do you know that a ton of the things used in hospitals to treat patients consist of latex? Man, that is so STUPID!

What I’m talking about is “not getting knockoffs” in regards to Apple products because there are always problems with them. If it is an Apple approved vendor, then that’s okay, as they have been checked out and they have to meet standards that Apple requires.

One of the questions at the doctor/dental/acupunture/tatoo/ emergency office is "are you allergic to latex?b

Food allergies are a real pain in the a.. I have always been allergic to a few things , corn, chocolate, wild rice. Easy to avoid those things. Now corn is in almost everything and I have developed a sensitivity to MSG. Only it is rarely called MSG anymore, it is called by a dozen other names. I feel for your relatives.

I was in line at Walmart and a woman told me she had bought her dogs those cheap toys made in China at the checkout line. One was paralyzed for 24 hours after biting the toy. She said she would NEVER buy anything for her dogs made there. She said he recovered but the vet said whatever it was, there would have been nothing he could have done.

Google flavor enhancers and see what you get. Then avoid all that crap and see if you feel better.

Watch the movie “The beautiful truth”. The full movie used to be on Youtube. We own it on DVD. It’s about a guy named Gerson who is said to have developed a cure for Cancer in the 1920’s or 30’s. It’s about masticating juicers and coffee enemas.

And a few years after we bought the video we became acquaintances of a 30 something woman who had stage 4 breast cancer and was completely cured without doctors. After some discussion it turns out she used the Gerson method.

We have not had health care insurance since Jan 1, 2014 and are in our 60’s. We swear by the masticating juicer. We also have a huge garden and grow our on beef and also enjoy a lot of venison.

And my band turned me on to some articles about raw milk that are worth reading. As with so many government food edicts, the laws against it are based on BS - and supporting the “big business” dairy industry. The tools they use to stop people from selling and consuming raw milk are draconian. To sell it you have to sell shares in your cows. And the FDA will actually watch a farm and when the father and mother leave they’ll drive up and interview/intimidate the children to see if there is any “illegal selling” going on.

Amazing stuff.
