“Electric Vehicles run on coal.”

Better that than sending 18% of our gasoline bills to OPEC.

Besides, only 40% is coal. The rest is much, much cleaner.

Some kind of hybrid would do well for me, but I still feel really annoyed that some people have no common sense when it comes to running a car engine in a garage. This is dumber than leaving a child in a bath tub unsupervised. Should we recall bathtubs just because some children will drown in them? I don’t think so.

The problem is they pull it in and leave the electric on. It drains the batteries down to the point the ICE kicks on hours later to maintain the battery charge, filling the garage with CO/CO2/etc.

Since I choose to ignore GM and this damn Volt thing that Obunga so highly approved of, I was unaware it was not 100% electric. Thought it was just a big golf cart like that Datsun Leaf thing?

I don't blame you for not knowing because when the Volt first came out, a lot of anti-EV pundits did their best to mislead people into thinking that you would get stranded in a Volt if the battery ran out.

Unfortunately, a lot of people got their first impression of the Volt in that way and don't realize that it just turns into a regular gasoline car when the 40-mile battery runs out.

Oh by the way, the Volt was announced in 2007 before Obama was elected. Also, all that stuff about it catching on fire turned out to be baloney as well.

In my opinion, driving a Volt is a good way for Americans to stick it to OPEC.

There, I fixed it for you. Less than 40% of our electricity comes from coal. The rest comes from much cleaner sources.

Regardless, Electric cars are no more energy efficient than internal combustion engine cars. Add in the lack of range and it is not an option for most people.

I can only imagine the lack of range on a 10 degree day in Illinois. I would suspect the heater would suck up allot of the potential range.

Your cute little pic most conveniently left out a HUGE source of fuel for power plants: That’s right, OIL! The very common turbine power generation plants use good old oil.

Nope. Oil makes up 1% of our electricity production. You are thinking of natural gas turbines.
