The baseball world lost one of its greatest talents and brightest minds on Friday when former Cleveland Indians infielder and longtime MLB executive Al Rosen died at age 91.

Known as the "Hebrew Hammer," Rosen spent the entirety of his 10-year playing career with the Indians, hitting .285/.384/.495 with 192 home runs and 717 RBIs over 4,374 plate appearances. Rosen was a four-time All-Star, earning selections from 1952-1955, and was voted American League MVP in 1953, beating out the likes of Yogi Berra, Minnie Minoso and Mickey Vernon.

My all time favorite baseball player. Honest.

I went to a baseball card show in Erie, Pa.around 1984-85. One of the dealers had about 15 Don Mattingly rookie cards fanned out on his table. Eighty dollars apiece. He had stacks of boxes of older cards and I asked him if he had an Al Rosen rookie card. He never heard of him! But he did find one and I got it for three dollars.

I used to put my Mickey Mantle cards in my bicycle spokes just to tick off all of the Yankee fans I was hanging around with. And no—I don’t regret it.

I too spent my youth and childhood in Cleveland, OH..and Al Rosen was my Hero..I kept an entire scrap book on him, have no idea what ever happened to it...but I was a daddy's girl and loved baseball along with him, and I would keep score of the games via radio when my dad had to work and miss a game..another of my favorite Cleveland Indians was Vic Powell..oh our youth, how fast it passes.

just saw this as I was surfing the posts here...Glad he had a great long life, he was so handsome as I remember...

I moved to Cleveland, OH. in Dec. 1952 and left OHIO, in 2003 and returned to my birthplace..yuck...should have stayed in OHIO ...I miss my friends who I still keep in touch with.

Raised my two children in OH. and they have both relocated to the South, so that is more than likely where I will also finally go...no more OH. or PA. winters...
something to look forward to in my old age.
