I feel ya. I think that we are from the same generation. I just happened to see Raquel Welch in a sci-fi flick during my youth and have been fond of her ever since.
My 6 yr old niece loves My Little Pony. Rainbow Dash is her fav...I’m surprised this cartoon is still on tv!
“holier than thou phase”...You nailed it!
SHAZAM!
You win the Thread Yaelle!
Everyone is poo-pooing Shows like Friendship is Magic, but the kids watching today will grow up and will have been at least partially shaped by what they have seen growing up.
In this age of media it can't be helped.
So Maybe we need to spend more time getting a hold of Media instead of running and reacting to it.
“It is hardly childish. Do you enjoy animated Disney flicks?”
Not in the last 75 years when I was 4!!!!
I may like star trek, but I don;t dress up like a klingon and talk in klingon and teach my kids klingonese, i just enjoy the show and the starships!
Same with the ponies!
I’m so glad I grew up in the era of Foghorn Leghorn, Elmer Fudd, the Roadrunner, Donald Duck, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam, Bugs Bunny, Pepe Le Pew, Sam Sheepdog, Tasmanian Devil, Wile E. Coyote and the rest of the world’s most wonderful gang. Those glory days are long gone.
Ahh Star Trek.
You know, those who may not know on the thread, John De Lancie essentially plays a Q-like figure in MLP:FiM. He is now a recurring guest star.

I think one reason the Recent My Little Pony cartoon has such a fan base is because it doesn’t talk down to kids or anyone else who is watching it, far too often kids show tend to treat kids like little brainless sugar monsters when instead you can treat them like intelligent beings and they will pick up REAL life lessons. Instead of just slamming them over their heads with the same olde tired “Sharing is Caring” Socialism drek that shows on PBS constantly brainwash kids with.
Heck a lot of LIVE Action shows on TV suffer from the drek of the whole no conflict and bag on the ONE character (usually a white male doofus). I have seen several episodes of MLP and they have episodes that show ALL the ponies weaknesses and strengths as they have well more well developed personalities than 90% of the sitcom shows out there.
So while I primary stick to Sci-Fi, i watched a few episodes of MLP to see what the internet fuss was about and once I got my second episode under my belt I was hooked and it now gets recorded on my DVR, i am not a crazy “super fan” but I enjoy the show and some of the musical numbers could give the recent Disney movies a run for their money. They even had Weird Al on for an episode too.
It is a fun little show, and growing up in the country I really love the farm girl applejack and the one song about re-building a barn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRW9PnBDaJY
Give it a chance it may grow on y’all, in an era where it is hard to find some decent family entertainment, this “Pegasister” recommends it.

In this most recent episode the ponies arrived in the “equal town” and it was funny the way they were able to draw the ponies of this town because the smiles all seemed very forced like they would at a some event for “Dear leader”.
What was best was that the “Dear Leader” of the town was a complete Hypocrite and she was actually NOT living like the rest of the town’s brainwashed and dried ponies. Once that was exposed all of the town people partied like it was Berlin in 1989 and got their special talents back that had been stolen by the “equality queen”.
I was rather amused that in one episode they sorta went through the entire life cycle of east Germany and other socialist states. You had the Hypocrite commie leadership living high on the hog and enjoying the freedom the masses were told would cause them unhappiness.

I enjoyed Looney Toons growing up, I loved Bunker Hill Bunny
Sounds like a good episode
The equal sign was a symbol of gay marriage wasnt it? lol
when i saw the promo for the episode I was all like “OMG they have jumped the pony-shark”. But I started watching the episode and then was very much relived that it was “Everyone is equal in soviet union” type of thing and they were actually deconstructing it in a very easy to understand manner!
[ I really love childrens books and have amassed quite a large collection, having homeschooled 3/4 kids. But there was one hardbound book with expensive illustrations that I refused to donate: I just threw it out. It was pure Communism. Its called The Rainbow Fish and it deserves to be in landfills or burnt. In it, a little fish is covered with beautiful rainbow scales (done in metallic glittery paper to look very special indeed). People get jealous and mock him, and he goes to a wise creature for help. The wise one tells him to share all of his pretty scales equally among the other fish children, which he does, and then each child has exactly one fancy scale, including him. And everyone plays happily because they are all the same. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. ]
The moral of that filthy book is to take what makes you special and sacrifice it so that you don’t make your friends envious of you for having special talents and abilities... Absolutely the opposite of being exceptional and helping other be exception it gives in to the enemy of civilization , that being ENVY.
i swear commies are indoctrinated at an early age to give in to the inherent envy that lives in everyone’s heart and they make it constant companion whispering sweet “You should have that because THEY have that” in their ears...
[ During such a Civil War, are losing factions sent to the glue factory? ]
In Soviet Horse Village, horse hold pieces of worthless Russian ruble paper money together on wall for added insulation for cold Siberian night...
